Just to let you know that Pat went in to hospital last night to start 5 days of Chemo , they are putting in a central line today and start treatment later , we are both a bit nervous about it and Pat has been told she will lose her hair :-1 , I have already picked out a nice head cover which has a fringe in any color she wants , I will give updates when I have them

I'm sorry you are going through this.

A tip for something that MIGHT help with hair loss... ask the people at

the center if they have ever used ice caps for patients. It is something

that covers the patient's scalp, keeping it very cold, and lowered

circulation up there would mean lower chemo getting to that area.

Can't hurt, anyway, and maybe worth a try.

Unc, my Mum is having chemo every fortnight, by the time her 2nd session was due she had lost all her hair, you can get some fantastic wigs and scarves now. I went along with Mum to pick her bits and so many people have told her how nice her hair looks :wah:

Be strong, sending you and Pat my love and warm wishes:-4

Did Pat manage to sleep after the first day of it? Hospitals are dreadful places, hours of tedium and then patches of excitement you'd much rather do without. I hope she has bright cheery staff rather than dour bed-wardens.

Update

Some one is having a bloody laugh at us , Pat just phoned me to tell me she has a high temperature so they are keeping watch for infection , they have now told her she has a Heart mummer and that one of her heart valves is not working as it should other than that after day one of Chemo she is feeling pretty well  , all the doctors and nurses are brilliant on her wards

I think you know what I mean. :o

Awww Fester. My hubby has a central line in all the time so he can be fed through it for twelve hours a day. They are a bugger to get in,and can easily get infected. They will soon sort that out with antibiotics so try not to worry too much.

Thinking of you both.

Pat had a bad night last night , she required a bit of oxygen , there is an infection in the line , they are not going to take it out as the Chemo finishes Wednesday morning they are just going to pump her with antibiotics , just phoned her and she is feeling a bit better , she must be , she is demanding some packets of crisp ( potato chips ) to be brought in :)

I am bloody smoking again

Just a quick update , Pat has finished her Chemo , she has had a sh1ty week the line caused an infection which affected her lungs , they put antibiotics in as though they were going out of existence , took line out yesterday but had to put a canular in for more antibiotics and they are putting Platelets in today , she MAY be home Sunday

She is, I have no doubt, feeling uncomfortable. I do hope they manage to clean out any residual infection and not let it embed itself, that can be really hard to clear out - you go along clean for weeks and wham, fever and swellings back with no warning. I think it lives in joints when it's misbehaving that way. It complicates matters.

Are you any good at cooking, once she's back? A two-week exploration of indian curry recipes would take her mind off what she's been through.

Just to let you know , Pat is home , The Leukemia has gone but at the moment she is a total wreck , can't do much for herself and she has to use oxygen now and again she is upset as her hair is falling out , on the funny side, somehow she has learned to speak Klingon in her sleep
