Has anybody ever hear of the term "hoarding"? It's when people collect junk and collect it to a point of being overwhelmed in junk and dirt. Recently a psychologist told me that when a person has that disorder it's due to an obsession with perfection. I've known a few people with this disorder. Got any good stories about hoarding?

I know people who hoard junk and also animals, sometimes both. I don't see how perfection comes into play. I think it's more a need for security. Being afraid to part with anything. Somehow their stuff gives them a sense of security and place in the world. And in the case of animals, thinking no one else can care for them as well as they can.
I once saw a show on TV about a woman who was so bad that she couldn't bring herself to throw out used bandaids. She would stick them to the wall. There were filthy dishes strewn across the house and plates of old food everywhere. Her kids didn't even have a place to eat dinner. I think someone like that is to the point of illness.

SWhen I did reshab for people with disabilities, I had a bit of a sad case. The lady was in a wheelchair....funny thing main room was clear, but one spare room and a closet were stuffed with news papers, and things bought through home shopping network. She would never throw thingsout. I think it was a cross betwee hoarding and some OCD or something. Though she was not compulsively neat, she had trouble throwing things out. She had food and stuff in her fridge that was old, but would not throw it out. She had cartons of orange juice months old, not fit to drink, but she could not be convinced to get rid of it.
