I read starter for ten also. Brilliant book. perfect as I was just starting university also.
I shall nominate David Nicholls also... partly because I have not kept up with who's new and who isnt.

Thanks aemdiate! Always on the 'look-out' for new books and engaging new authors.
I'll be searching/ordering/buying some David Mitchell for sure.

I'm not sure how new and upcoming he is, but one I recently discovered and really have enjoyed is Henning Mankell.
