Um, if you need a contact once you get there, you know, to get you settled and set up in your cabin, give me a call. I live in Anchorage, Alaska the biggest town in the state and grew up in the interior's biggest town, Fairbanks. I lived the bush life for a time, was married to an Eskimo and lived on the ice for a winter too! :wah:

So, give me a call once you arrive. (pm me for a number) I'll treat you to an Alaskan brew and slice of Moose meat pizza!:D

Hi DH,

My Dad was born at a "gold mining" site about 128 miles west of Nome. He was sent back to Ireland with his Mother when the men got too rambuncious....too many guns around.

My family and I were going to venture to Nome and try to find the site of the mine, but the trip was postponed due to a mistake with the itinery and my sis-in-law was afraid to take a prop plane to the mine.

Ahhhhh well, it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe someday. My cousin lives in Anchorage, his name is Neil O'Donnell and he's an attorney. Haven't met him yet, thought we could do that on our journey someday.

Good luck in Alaske....your state holds dear to my heart:-6

All Cheeze Pizza for Indian P. it is then, and JD on the ice. LOL

As for your dad Kathy, I have been to Nome many times and know of a gold mine just outside of town. Can't recall the name of it. But the area was all gold mining and to this day you can pan gold on the beaches around the town, thats how much gold flake is around.

People tell the story of a hunter who returned one fall with six Caribou. When they butcherd them and removed the lower jaws the back molars were plated with a thick leaf of gold. Imagin a gold vein so heavy the tundra growning in it depsits gold on the animals teeth!

My grandads Aunti, a fae Scottish Lass, was a saloon girl at the oldest drinking establishment still in opperation in Nome. Can't recall the name of it either but, you can't miss it since its got a big placcard that reads OLDEST yada yada in Nome.

Ah, good times. Lots of good stories I could tell.

Hi DH,

My grandfather's mine was in the Kougarok River. It was called No. 8, above the Connolly's discovery and the spot fraction. This area was located 120 miles north of Nome. I have pictures of my grandfather's fort called "Fort Mc Fadden." How cool is that!
