I've read Into The Wild and found the story of 'Alexander Supertramp' to be intriguing, sad, and puzzling all in one. I'll have to see the film, of course.
Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air is another absorbing study of human folly, and a cracking read.

I bought this today and watched it for the first time.... OMG it made me cry. Glad I did not watch it in the theater. I held back for most of it thought many parts of it had me close to tears, and then I couldn't stop them from coming.
It was very moving... hugely appealing to my inner wanderlust self, at one point I asked Jr Minks if she was ready for another road trip then told her to never take one like the one Chris McCandless took in that flick.
I really liked this flick.

It was directed by Sean Penn and he won a couple of directorial awards for it. Hal Holbrook, who is a great actor at age 82, was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor (his first nod ever).
Javier Bardem beat him out for "No Country for Old Men". Mr. Holbrook was my sentimental favorite and I wish he took home the Oscar. :-6

his part in this flick did make me cry tear up... Hal's part that is. And it was a very small part but so emotional.
Everyone in that flick got me emotional.
Kind of proof that as you go through life you actually do touch many many people along the way.
hmmmmm imagine if they all made it to ones funeral.

Ok I watched this yesterday. I really liked the story and the kid was great, real upbeat and adventurous, full of
energy. Good scenery, I would have liked to have seen more "wild" though.
Should have been more Alaska, they could have exploited the pristine countryside more.
Some background on his life was appropriate but I didnt need that much info.
And Im sorry but William Hurt sucks.
