It has been reported that statistics say that "330,000" accidents annually are caused by drivers being distracted talking on Cell Phones while driving. :guitarist
I am a little confused, what is the difference between the driver talking to a "passenger" in the car or on a Cell phone, Especially a hands free set-up.
Personally I don't use my Cell Phone while driving. But that's just me. :wah:
DO YOU THINK USING CELL PHONES IS DISTRACTING & SHOULD BE BANNED WHILE DRIVING?

This is a pet peeve of mine. I truly hope they are banned while driving.
My word, how can you possibly pay attention to your driving when your talking on the phone.. They just don't go together..!! I don't care how important you think your are, it can wait a whole minute while you pullover to take the call.. :driving:
If someone in my family is killed by someone who was talking on the phone while driving.. I will beat them death with their FLIPPIN PHONE.. In my book it's just as dangerous as drinking, and driving..!!
Roads are dangerous enough, without some 17 kid in his BMW mommy, and daddy gaving, talking on the phone while making a left turn into oncoming traffic..
BAN THEM WHILE DRIVING THE SOONER THE BETTER..

The difference between talking to the passenger and talking on a phone, hands-free or not, is that when you're in a situation where you need to concentrate, ie: traffic jam, people driving like idiots, or any one of a hundred scenarios where you need to be focused, the passenger in your car can see what's going on and stop talking allowing you to concentrate. The person on the other end of the phone can't do that. And most people talking on their phone believe themselves to be such excellent drivers that they don't need to stop and put the phone down. I fully support banning cell phones while driving. With all the stupid people on the road today, the last thing we need is distracted stupid people. The times I have seen near misses, and had near misses myself because of some twit on a phone are too many to count. Get off your phone and DRIVE!!! :-5

Hm. I hope you're aware of the law where you are at the moment!

Sure.. make a law banning using a cellphone while driving.. but you better add eating.. drinking coffee.... reading the newspaper... or a book... or anyother damn thing that is a driver distraction.. I had a woman eating yogurt driving next to me one day.. and everytime she scraped the little container she would swerve into my lane.. lets not just single out someone that talks on a cellphone..

There's something about talking to a cellphone that takes you out of the car.
It's different from talking to a passenger.
I just got my first cellphone this year and I'll be darned if I didn't swerve around when I tried it. Never again. I don't answer while I'm driving. When I get to my destination, I call them back.

Why not? There are distractions, and then there are distractions. The TRL have found that using a mobile when driving is more dangerous than being over the drink-drive limit. It's already illegal in a large number of countries.

The statistics said 330,000 accidents annually were caused by drivers distracted using their cell phone.
And that's just the accidents, how many millions must be driving & cell phoning!
All distractions are bad, as Bill said some worse then others. It has not yet been reported that 330,000 accidents were caused by eating, reading drinking coffee.
When they create such statistics then they will be critized accordingly! :wah:

I know this is a usless comment but people should just have sense.
Why are so many people idiots, thinking they can safely drive whilst doing something else?

letha, you are absolutly right, "driving is a full time job" - not to be taken lightly.
Especially in high traffic areas! :guitarist
