If you buy or hang a picture in your home..what do you decide makes you want it?



i am drawn to pictures that cause some kind of deep feeling within me to look at it..do you look at pictures and only see the colors or do you feel emotions in them?

pics that move me, tell me a story, call out to me

Whatever my daughter brings home from art school.....................:wah:

I cannot hang them all, they are in stacks in the living room!

This was brought home a day or two ago, a self- portrait.....

Our walls are almost a collage of photographs and pictures, shadow boxes, small shelves and clocks. Some were gifts, some we bought ourselves because we just like them, some just bring back memories. We like having pictures that make us smile.

I collect pictures by this artist (Sarah jane Szikora) they never fail to make me smile:)

I love nosing at family pictures in other people's houses, a little bit of history in a frame

What made me ask this is i have a oil painting of a moth on a limb of a cherry tree..it makes me feel timeless..peaceful...to look at it..i have it hanging at my front entryway so when i am on my front porch i can still see itthrough the glass door..i have noticed people usually walk by it when they come in...but they end up goingback and looking at it later..i wondered what they saw or felt in it...

There is an artist working in the colony at St. Ives in Cornwall called Keith English.

His works tend to be transparencies laid over transparencies laid over landscapes - very effectively done and stunning viewing.

If I had the money I'd start collecting originals - the prints never work so well and I'm convinces that they'll appreciate as he becomes better known.

Having stood in front of the original awestruck, the copy does not do it justice.

My dad is an art fanatic and my appreciation for it comes from his enthusiasm.

He dabbles in a bit of painting - mostly landscapes or abstracts.

A couple of years ago he painted a seascape for me. Everytime I look at it I get completely lost in it:-4

I like Renoir and portraits. I like beauty in art. And I also like bright colors.

Color first... immediately. I am very color sensitive. I will consider colors that are not my favorite, and look at the composition. But there are colors that actually make me feel sick, or depress me. I do not even examine the work. I do not eat off of black plates. And I do not drink out of opague colored glasses. Very unsettling and unpleasant for me. I am not fond of primary colors.. or the rough texture of oils. I like watercolors, and of course landscapes, flowers, trees and birds.

I'm like weeder, it's color that attracts or turns me off at first. Amy Brown is one of my favorite artists. Her fairies are beautiful.

Always the sea Guppy.... The sea fascinates me in ways that I can't explain, and that's why I will always live near the sea.....in another life I will be a mermaid.

I'm drawn to anything that lets my imagination come out and play. Anything that touches a deeper chord in me than the hurried blindness of every day life.
