I have recently been involved in discussions regarding our School Board and the decisions that are being made. This is my first experience of such things, so would like to hold off my comments
Whats your School Board like? What are the benefits/issues? :-6

Pheasy,
Our School Board is wonderful and always there for you. We're blessed. We have a fabulous Superintendent of Schools who is a true businessman and knows how to run the show. He's always there to speak with you and help you with your concerns.
I'm lucky to be working in this district.

I have always been very involved with my children’s school. Volunteering when ever possible. Heavily involved in the PTO. Always buying books for the classrooms and library. The teachers at our Elementary school are second to none. My son joined in 5th grade and daughter from kindergarten - EVERY teacher has been excellent. Dedicated to the children and their education. So ....... at our last PTO meeting, members of the teachers union came to talk to us (no begging is a more suitable word). Apparently our school board members who have been there since the ‘building of Noahs ark’, will not give anything! They are sitting on hoards of cash, without giving to the teachers or schools. We are in an area that is rapidly growing, and will continue to grow. We cannot get approval for more teachers to accommodate the rise in students. We cannot get funding for classroom supplies. The list goes on. This school has been surviving on PTO funds. Yet the district has cash to spare. Apparently (I listen to gossip) that the few people who have tried to take on the school board with these issues (including a teacher), has received death threats and had to leave the area.
I am stunned, and struggling to believe that this could be happening. That’s why I asked, I just cannot believe that in this day and age things such as this, could be happening.
