Well Skittles, you have to decide whether college is right for you. I agree, not everyone needs or benefits by college. Some people do better doing other things. I would say that you need to give yourself a chance to do well. Maybe give yourself a whole year. If after that time you are still feeling oppressed by this avenue into adulthood, remember you can decide to do something else. There are so many things to do in life. No one right way.

You may need some extra help in form of college tutoring and such. Maybe you could look into this. Every college has help for those who need to develop skills with organization, basic academic stuff, college life and relationships.

Good luck

Erin

I also noticed something else about me here, I run from everything. When something hard and difficult comes along... I don't try to deal with it. I run.

This is what you said Skittles. Stop running. I know this is hard with everthing you have been through. College is difficult - keep trying. I know what a strong young woman you are. This semester may be a semi-bust but you can go into the next semester with new self strength. I am sure they have free psych counseling at your college - please go talk to them. College is a difficult time even without what you have been through.

If you feel you need to take a semester and work at McDonalds - go do it. It may change your mind about the course you want your life to take. I sooo respect you and hope you do not give up on yourself. You are so smart and intuitive. College would be a perfect out for you. I love you Skittles.

Suck it up is a good attitude little lady. Think about what you want to achieve as opposed to Burger King.

There are things you can do to help yourself out. Maybe lighten your credit load. Or, next semester choose courses that you know will be easier for you. A few successes would do wonders for your confidence. Try to stick it out though. Your so fortunate to be there.

I am not one to talk. But, I believe you can do it. I have one more year to finish college and when I started, I was like you. I had to study more than anyone, but I received straight a's. So, just apply yourself to studing and you will find a routine. Make new friends, that always helps me.:D

Hi Skittles,

Please don't give up so soon. Life is hard ,and you just have to deal with it and get help with your studies. Are you a freshman???? The work load is daunting I know.

But, I do know that you should go to your guidance counselor and ask for available help. Many schools have students who are juniors and seniors. They will become your mentor and help you through the process...they'll find tutors and study groups for you. This way you won't feel alone.

I am already failing some of my classes. I probably study more then anyone here! There are people not made for college right? Well i think I am one of them. I also noticed something else about me here, I run from everything. When something hard and difficult comes along... I don't try to deal with it. I run.

When my brother died and my mom was struggling, I didn't want to deal with it. So i left

I don't know why I am here. I don't understand how i can be so excited about something and then the next day... hate it so much!:-1

Take the assignment one step at a time. Break it down into smaller problems and work on them.

Whenever I was presented with an assignment or an exam paper my reaction was exactly the same - "sh!t, this is impossible". Stop, read it through again, if it's discrete questions take them one by one starting with the least difficult (none of them look easy but some are not totally impossible), if it's a paper imagine what the final paper should include and how it should be structured - think which parts you might just be able to put something down about and start with them and work up to the more difficult parts. Yuo can stitch the results together at the end.

You have to look past to impossible lump to find the smaller parts - they are the key into the job.

Best of luck - it's when you can see the problems and can work through them that you product the best results.

So how are you feeling now, Skittles?

It sounds like you had some unfinished business going on and that it's caught up with you. That happens. It's good that you realized these things as soon as you did.

I didn't go to college myself but I know being thrust into that environment right after high school is a major event. There's a lot of stress and uncertainty involved. Even if you had gone into the working world instead of college, you would probably feel the same way. This is all new to you and it's normal to feel a bit out of place.

I think everyone's given you good advice here about the assignments and everything. And maybe college really isn't for you. Maybe it is though. You'll find out in due time but give yourself a chance before you make any fast decisions.

I don't know you very well, I must have come here after you did; but I read all your posts and I can see the seeds of potential there. You're a smart girl and I really think you're going to do just fine in whatever you do.

Talk to the staff, Skittles. You were young going there, you're a hard worker with ambition, they'll fight your corner - they want you to succeed on the course just as much as you want to. Every semester is a clean slate as far as I know.
