By that, I mean, do you like yourself? Are you happy with the way you look, think, act and feel?

No no no no and no.

What totally baffles me is that I can see no way of logically saying that I'd be unhappy if I felt happy about those aspects of myself. You'd think the language would have a construct for something so reasonable.

Absolutely. There is one and only one thing I do not like and that is my stubborn inability to quit smoking. If I get that Saab, that is going to change. I like the way I look, I get enough random compliments about my eyes and dimples (they aren't dimples so much as wrinkles at this point), and like they way I look in the mirror enough to be comfortable with myself.

I think I have a decent amount of both book smarts and common sense; although I may not always exercise either to my ability.

I think it comes from actually living a little outside of your comfort zone. My brother is 24, raised in the same way by the same people, yet his self esteem is on the low side. He has had two girlfriends his entire life. I had two women ask me to marry them by the time I was his age. Things is I had already been moving, rambling, and experiencing the "world" by the time I was his age, and had been doing it for six years.

Happiness is such an elusive creature if you chase it.

I do well being happy with what I have.

There was a time that I did. I am not "cocky" at least not in anything but a self-depreciating way, but I do have confidence in myself. I usually manage to get what I set my mind to. I may not keep it for long, but I do get it. Maybe it is because I spend the majority of my time trying to help people in the opposite situation and I see that the only thing it does it breed more of the same. Perception is reality.

Have you ever heard of the 5 you's?

1. Who you are.

2. How you see yourself as being.

3. How you think other people see you.

4. How other people see you.

5. How other people think that you see yourself.

The closer these 5 are aligned the more together you are, if there are big differences you could be facing issues.

I don't think many women are happy with with how they look, most of us wish we could change something. It's no big deal though, and we make do with what we have.

More and more as time goes on. Occasionally I flirt with loving myself. Those are usually pretty good days.

As I get older I have become happier with myself. Much of that has to with maturity and learning to accept what cannot be changed. As Jimbo said, I could be better but I could be worse. I'm nowhere near perfect but there's a song I know that says "beauty is beauty in spite of perfection." In this case I am not referring to how I look but how I am. I look forward to getting older because I expect to learn more, have more to contribute, and have better perception of the bigger picture. I have a few things about me that I would like to change, and that can be changed and they will be in time. But right now I'd have to say I'm pretty content with who I am. :)

Im satisfied with the way I look for me, but I am not pleased with the me I think people are seeing. I have struggled with self image issues my entire life. No matter how many compliments I receive, it does nothing to convince me that I am unattractive. Not so much unattractive, as just not attractive. It has gotten worse as Ive gotten older, and honestly it is very annoying to have to always be judging yourself.

Geez I am about to turn 52. I really DO like my life.

That would mean I like the way I live my life and especially like myself.

Dang------------does that make me a person?

^^^you just explained the way I feel and have felt for a long time in a way that I never could!!

I'm my own worst critic, and I'm going through a REALLY bad time right now, so to ask me how I feel about Wendy, isn't a good thing...she's REALLY upset with herself right now, needs to lose about 75 lbs, get healthy, rob a bank without getting caught and all will be well in the world again!:o
