Annoying doctor policies! Faxing Rx!

Yesterday I was at the doctor getting a blood draw. I asked for a prescription for my insulin as I was out. I was told as usual, to "just have the pharmacy fax us over a request and we'll fax them a prescription."

I should have known better. This never works.

So I did that. I'm at the store waiting to pick up my stuff and they still haven't received the doctor's fax yet. So they fax again. No answer. I go home. I call today and the scrip was "just" faxed and will be ready in an hour.

So I took my last dose of insulin and I have none. Now i have to pay a cab to take me to the store again. I'm irritated at the inefficiency.

Any doctors here? Why do you guys do this? Why not just cut us a scrip when we ask for it and eliminate all this unnecessary faxing?!

I've never heard of this being done over here - repeat perscriptions are collected from the surgery, generally without the need to see the doctor.

Yes can be annoying. Our doctor's office just "calls" our pharmacy, & gives them the info over the phone. It kinda really depends on the "office staff" in the doctor's office. As to how efficient the whole matter is/will be handled. Fortunately for us, our doctor's "office staff" are extremely efficient, and all matters are compentently handled!! :)

When I'm waiting at the pharmacy to pick them up and none are there, I go back to the Doctor's office and get in his face for one on paper. Nowadays, I do not leave his office until I have that paper in hand.

How sad that you are insulin dependent, they know it and have pulled this crap on you. I hope you get this straightened out Red!

It's hardly new technology. The fax machine was invented in 1843.

Over here you get a prescription from the doctors surgery as bryn says-I don't think any doctor them would respond to a faxed request from a pharmacist-how do they know the request is genuine?

My doc sends the requests via her laptop, which she does in front of me. Only once did the pharmacy not recieve it. But I'm switching pharmacies next time I have to have a script filled, tired of the rude ladies that work at the one I used.
