LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. — Convinced the fugitive they were looking for was inside, a SWAT team raided the wrong apartment and left a single mother of two homeless, WLWT is reporting.

The SWAT team reportedly surrounded the apartment building and spent hours ordering the suspect to surrender, but when he didn't, they forced themselves into the apartment and sprayed tear gas, the station is reporting.

"It looked like my apartment was on fire," Kayla Irwin told WLWT. "The smoke was just blowing out of my windows."

Irwin said her apartment is, "all covered with poison."

"I don't know where to start over with my two kids," she told the station, adding one of her pet guinea pigs was killed during the incident. "How do you start with replacing the items your kids have had since the day they were born?"

Irwin denies knowing the suspect police were looking for.

That totally sucks for that woman...flat out.....but atleast you know shes going to get quite the settlement....it ofcourse doesn't make up for mementos that were lost and that poor wittle guinea pig that died! But atleast she will get a bigger apartment...hopefully

That's pretty bad... I don't see the need to use tear gas from what I'm reading of that situation and certainly the outcome confirms that it indeed was unnecessary... Surely somebody will find her a place to stay and some essentials, though... I hope they at least attempt to make things right.
