Who really goes out shopping on this day? I don't, I avoid the malls whenever possible. The morning traffic report was all about how many cars were at WalMart!

Never have; never will. You could not pay me to go to a store today. I'd probably end up in jail for beating the snot out of a pushy shopper. :wah:

I took the truck to get the oil change, first there and out in a small amount of time. Miles from the mall...................

Hi Chonsi,
At the last minute, I have To drive on the major highway today unfortunately. I would never go to the mall today. It's already a mad house out there. I guess if I had to buy gifts for my family I would. But, we've gone back to the traditional holiday spirit now. We just get together, sing songs and eat and drink a lot:-6
We send holiday gifts (from a catalog) to the host of the holiday party...things like cheese & crackers, wine, chocolates and mixtures of all goodies....so much simpler that way.
I like not shopping now.

I shop mostly online for family members far away, and for the ones here, the kids are getting new winter coats. They will have to go out shopping with me for that, but not this weekend.
I haven't decided yet what to get my husband, a new football team would be nice.........:wah:

Since we live so close to the U.S. border, there are many people going down to Seattle/Bellingham to do shopping from Canada, since our dollar is so strong. They showed on the news this a.m. that there was an approx 1/2 hour wait at the border to go south at 6:30 a.m. That is good for the U.S. to get the business from Canada, but it really hurts Canada's economy. If the Canadian's were not so damm greedy and get their heads out of their butts, they would lower the prices siginificantly to compete with U.S. stores and keep the business within Canada. Just IMHO.

This is the 2nd year that I didn't go shopping on Black friday....I used to LOVE it!! but slepping in and saving my energy and money works for me too!
My dog has a hurt paw and he has a splint on it that needs to be re-done every 2 weeks or so...and he can't get it wet...well Its only been 1 week and he got it soaked yesterday!! I refuse to go to the vets office today....plus they want to charge me 125.00 every time I take him in!!:-5:-5

I just drove past the mall, less than a third of the parking spaces were filled. I parked in my usual place, and went to the gym with ease. I think shopping is down, and it will be interesting to watch the stats on Monday's news.

I was thinking along the same lines Chonsi...I was gonna go out in a little while, maybe everyone went home for a turkey sandwich break!!:-6
And yes, I know the economy is a factor in this as well!

Some stores are really getting rediculous around here.:wah: Kole's Dept store opened at "4"am this morning, just to be the first one to open. Then Sears who used to be first open at 5am, now came in the second one to open!
The news said today, that many people were in lines camped outs side the stores since 3pm yesterday, Thanksgiving day!!! Some people need to get a life, the sales are not that great!!!

I agree with you Cars...I only found one item that really stood out at me...and it only cost 5 bucks usually 8....do I really want to drive 25 minutes and stand in line for a 3 dollar savings??? I don't think so.

The day after the Thanksgiving holiday, when the Christmas sales start. It is notorious for huge crowds, and shopping maniacs...............

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when all the stores, large and small have huge sales....sometimes 80% off items. It's called Black Friday because the stores sell so many products that financially they've made lots of profits, so they're in the black (positive) not the red (negative.)
Stores open up at 12 A.M. or at least by 4 or 5 A.M. and the shops are a mad house. You can really get good buys if you're up to the droves of people knocking you over, like $400 off of a good tv.
I've no patience for such.....
Years ago, when the kids in our family were small....I would go to a place called "Englishtown." It's about 40 miles south of my home. It was a gigantic flea market with indoor and outdoor stalls. It was a nice experience. I'd get there at 5 A.M and have brekkie and then shop until 10 A.M.
Then I would leave because the throngs of people would appear.

I go every year.
My husband & I go to a few stores - then breakfast- then the Mall.
Its a tradition - we don't really need anything, majority of our Christmas shopping is done, I usually find the stocking stuffers. I always put a Christmas ornament on their main present so I look for a few ornaments, and then I get a idea of what my husband wants/needs, which I'll pick up later.
Sure its crazy - but I'm not standing in lines - I'm not in any hurry, and we enjoy watching the crazy zoo

We did this year for the first time. CompUSA had a good deal on a monitor I wanted, so we showed up Thursday evening at 8 for their 9pm opening. Got in & got the monitor with no problems, though it took over an hour waiting in the checkout line :yh_frustr. While we were there my beloved fell in love with a 46-inch LCD TV that was on sale. An older gent told us Circuit City had a better deal on the same screen.
We went home & checked online and sure enough, the same brand was there for more than half off! Of course by this time it was almost midnight and the sale started at 5am. Believe it or not, we grabbed 3 hours sleep and were back in line at 4:30!! Unfortunately, the tv was sold out before we even made it in the door. :yh_doh
On the way home, we stopped by the Office Depot near the house because ... well ... we were up. There it was! Same brand in a slightly smaller size but $300 cheaper. I now have my first widescreen flat panel! Gladiator looks awesome on a 42" digital screen.
Next year we'll probably stay home & watch videos.

That's debatable, Chonsi. Now we have 6 tv's for 2 people to watch in 5 rooms, and 3 monitors for 2 computers.
I have to say we like our new toys, though. :driving:

Wow, so many TV's! I guess we have 3 here, for 4 people. But they are old, we don't need another one.
Only sale I got-my daughter picked up a digital picture frame from her store, to make a wedding album for my daughter who got married. I got the deal, store discount, coupon discount, and didn't have to do the shopping! :wah:

Nice ! Good Job. Youre halfway there. Now go find a deal on a theatre system. You dont have to spend a fortune. Better yet if you have a home stereo just hook that up. A subwoofer is a must to complete the experience. E Bay has excellent deals. You can get a new w/ warranty 10 Infinity Polk Klipsch whatever for half the price of retail.
I went to Wal Mart.
I needed a garage heater.
They made me prove I wasnt stealing it on the way out.
Not to mention when I got it home it was used and didnt work.
I hate them.

We had to go to another Thanksgiving yesterday 3 hours away. When we passed through Amarillo, we saw that the fire/rescue truck and 2 ambulances where at Kohl's already at 9 in the morning. We were curious as to what happened, but missed the news.
I did the Black Friday thing a couple of years ago, and I hated it.

How weird. Our christmas sales start on boxing day. Then there's new year sales after that.

We don't get a boxing day. Boxing is usually only on pay-per-view....
When I was a kid, I always wondered what that holiday was for. It was always listed on calendars, and all I could think of was my grandfather watching his boxing shows on the old black and white TV set.....I ate cookies in the kitchen instead.
