Hey guppy-- again!

No, I don't have a cabinet like this though I've often thought about getting one. Don't know if I have the desire to collect beautiful, fragile things but then again, I'm indecisive about this sort of thing, decorating the house and all.

I have always shared my home with children as an adult and I guess that when I think about having something delicate I'm the type prone to be always on their case, reminding them to be careful around my objects de amor. I've been reluctant to make this a priority. I didn't or don't have the energy to make this important.

Sometimes I think I'd like to have glassware in my home, you know, the type that's been artfully crafted or handblown? Anyway, maybe this will come later in my life. Like I said I can't find the energy to make it happen at this point in my life. So no need to concern myself with the china cabinet, right?

I don't have a China Cabinet - but I have China. My China has a Red pattern ( I collect alot of Red) Some of my China is in the open Pantry, and I have some of my China Plates hanging on my Kitchen wall.

I have a Curio Cabinet which holds all my Red/Ruby Glass ware.

We very casual here so I never use the China - I display it..

Hello Patsy- Just curious to know, if you are casual why do you display your pretty red china instead of using it? To me being casual means that a person uses their pretty stuff rather than hanging it on the wall because he or she wants to enjoy whatever it is in the manner intended. Just asking sincerely. It's probably a philosophical attitude more than anything.

It's like, if I love this dishware why not use it?? I never really understood the idea of why something that is functional is collected rather than used? Well, I guess you could say it's more like a decorative subject matter, a sculpture of sorts, but to me it seems like dishes are to be useful first and then also beautiful. Could be I'm a function before form person. But I never considered myslef that way. Not that I don't appreciate the beauty of dishes, just asking.

Erin -

I came across this China thru a storage unit auction, and it was a Red pattern.

So with the Betty Crocker red check in my kitchen the China is decoration - I really have nothing invested in it. Its not handed down from my Grandmother..

We are very casual - eat in the living room (I have no children)

Could I use it - yes - if it broke - oh well - it had a red pattern to it so I hung some plated on my kitchen wall. Is it valuable - I have no idea..??

I collect alot of stuff - usually red & odd stuff - if my husband wanted to eat off the china - sure pull a plate off the wall dude...:wah:Patsy

I have a china cabinet which houses my good Minton dishes and crystal glasses. I do have a curio cabinet too with some Doulton and other pieces in it. I don`t buy any now, no point and no more room.

I don't have a china cabinet and wouldn't ever get one. It's not really my 'look' and I figure who the heck wants to dust all that extra stuff! :o :D

Anyway, we have no fancy dishes, I love my stonewear. It can go in the oven, microwave, etc. and if it breaks oh well. :D :wah:

Another reason I wouldn't ever have anything 'fancy' is because I don't like clutter so I only keep things in the house that get used regularly. :)

Happy Holidays everyone. I do have a china cabinet and it is full of dishes. I got my 'fine' china thru a bank where I had to deposit so much a week to get my place setting. Woo Hoo! I also have a curio cabinet we call the crystal cabinet. My now deceased mother-in-law gave me cut glass dishes every year for Christmas. I love it and use it whenever I can. The dishes and crystal are all used on Christmas day. My daughter-in-laws would rather we used foam plates but I figure we can spurge once a year. I love to decorate for Christmas too. I am a retired floral designer so it just has to happen. Have been working on the house for a week. Don't have the tree up as I do it last. I will hate the time when i'm not able to do all of it but am going to enjoy it while I can. Don't work so i have the time. Best Wishes.

I have a china cabinet, it is a family heirloom. Not much china in it though. It holds some "collectibles" and some things that my husband sent home from Egypt when he was there.
