I just bought some 22 oz. Yankee candles off eBay. I have smelled them in Dillard's and loved them but couldn't justify the price at $32.00 for a candle, even a big one. But I got two 22 oz. Yankees for $16.50 and 9.50 shipping. (second one ships free) Are these candles really worth the price, do you think? Will they smell up my whole house when lit?

That's what I'm hoping for. I am used to the fairly cheap candles they sell at Walmart which are okay but no real big fragrance. Are there any other really good candles out there that you can tell me about?

I got some Yankee Candles called Witches Brew that's very nice... they've got just a touch of patchouli. Good price on ebay for them, too.

Thanks Guppy. That's good to know.
I saw some Gooseberry cookbooks on eBay too. I thought of you. How many do you have now?
Pinkchick....that's me too. I just hate to pluck down big money for one, but if they're really as good as they say, then I might become an easy sell.

Oh Snooze! I know that one! It smells delicious!!
There's one I smelled in the store that I can't recall it's name or color. It smelled just like Coppertone suntan lotion. Does anyone know what this one is called? I would love to have it!

TK Max sell Yankee candles but I've never tried them. I've got a lavender candle from the National Trust burning at present...lovely scent.

I don't remember them from UK. In fact when I first arrived in the States it took me a while to work out what they were. :-6

Red, I just adore Yankee candles and won't buy any other kind. They last forever. One year I had a party and invited about 12 couples. The men kept asking me what that lovely smell was and the next day all, and I mean all , the women went to the store where I purchased the candles and bought all of the prominent ones in my home which were "Midsummer's Night" and "Honeydue Mellon."
I told the owner that it was all of my friends who bought up all of his "Midsummer's Night" and the little skite never gave me a discount on my purchases that day.....

Just a token would have been nice. He told me that people love MN because it smells like a man's expensive cologne.

maybe so, Jimbo, but it's a burning issue about which many of us could wax lyrical. We can't afford to ab-scent ourselves from it in a puff of smoke, however much you wish we would.

Thank you Chezzie for that link! It's very helpful!
Kathy Ellen, I agree a little discount or a free candle would have been nice. I too love Midsummer Night. It does smell like a man's cologne. MMM!
Jimbo, what is that on your noggin??

Didn't we used to have a "pun" thread here? I'm sure Uncle Kram used to deliver a mean pun...and there were also a couple of others, whom I can't remember

Yankee is overrated... and overpriced. I've yet to see one of their candles burn properly. They do have a good selection, though. It's just unfortunate that they use shoddy materials and act as if they offer a quality product.

Yes i adore them. Yankee candles, i would say are about the best around . I'm lucky enough to have three outlets quite close to me (one being Homebase - for the Brits) my favourites are Vanilla and Butterscotch cookie and sweet Strawberry . To make them last just keep the wick trimmed (stops them welling ) and only use them when you can keep them lit for a minimum of three hours or untill the whole top layer is melted . The plug-ins are great too, as are the Car jars . I think i actually have about 20 jars (in different sizes all over the house).:-6
***Sorry i meant Butterscotch cookie in stead of Chocolate chip.

I've changed it now

Thanks for the tips, Pants! I will do those things. I went a little crazy on eBay last night and ended up with about a hundred dollars in Yankee candles!

Dang eBay! It's Satan! :wah: I will look for the strawberry candle as I like strawberry too.

Yankee Candles, my wife used to buy them directly at the Yankee candle store here! And yes, they're very expensive, & most have wonderful sents, that filled our entire house! Expecially the Hazelnut Creme sent one, it is both our very favoriate sent!
So anyway, I was at Wallmart one day a year or so ago, & I stumbled on the candle department. Just for ha-ha's I decided to check out their candles for the Hazelnut sent, & low & behold they had it! The brand name was "mainstays" Hazelnut Cream- only $6.99 for same size jar as $22.50 Yankee candle jar! So I bought one, took it home. And when my wife saw it she said how could it be as good, & I probably wasted my money! Well we lit it & to our surprise, the sent turned out to be just as wonderful & strong & long lasting as the expensive one!!! So now we continue to buy the "mainstays" brand, & fill our house with our favoriate sent for a lot less cost! Actually, as I sit here in the putter room right now, the sent of Hazelnut Cream fills the air! And the candle is not even lit!!!

You're exactly right... I've tested those same candles sold at Walmart and they're made from that very same low quality #125 paraffin wax... the only difference is the $15.51 you saved and the scent range of the Yankee candles... very smart.

Thanks Cars, I'll look for Mainstays next time I'm at Walmart and I'll look for the hazelnut too! I just had to buy one to tide me over tonight so I bought a Glade 2 in 1 candle- creamy custard & blushing apple. We'll see how it does.
