Homemade Gifts- Yes or No?

What's the general consensus on getting and giving homemade presents?

I personally would rather have a handmade gift but I never seem to get any. I made bath salts in pretty jars one year for friends and birdhouses another year. I like those "recipes in a jar" that people make and of course any kind of edible is always good. :D

Do you appreciate homemade gifts or do you cringe at them?

I love handmade gifts, especially from the children:-6 I used to make a lot of gifts for people but in the end it was working out a lot more costly than buying something:thinking:

I love receiving and giving home-made gifts...Last year I made home-made t-shirts with photos on them for my family and years past I've helped the kids make crafty gifts....I love them and wish I had more time to do things like that.....I like the thought of someone caring enough to take the time and effort to make me something....just me....:-6

My husband does woodwork...and trust me...you would want one of his home-made gifts. He makes dollhouses, covered wagon lamps, fireplace lamps, hanging planters. He enjoys making them.

I always value a homemade gift more. When my dad was away during WW2, my gramps carved me a wooden revolver. The only moving part was a wood cylinder that turned. He painted it gray and the grips were white. I wish I still had it.

I love and cherish homemade gifts. I'm not very good at making them but I sure love to receive them. One of the nicest and most meaningful gifts was from a 9 year old boy who walked up and down a creek bank, searching for a rock with just the right shape that he could paint to look like a papoose, for my Indian collection.

I too love homemade cards and gifts, I think it shows that the person really thought of you and took time for you, in this day and age thats special.

I just worked my last day at a womans house who had a hip replaced. She does craft work and she gave me a silk scarf that she made.

Now I dont wear silk and will never wear the scarf but I was touched that she had taken the time to make it for me.
