Fancy dress bomb scare at school
A south Devon college has been evacuated after a pupil brought in what is thought to be a bomb as part of a fancy dress costume.
Police were called to Dawlish Community College at 0925 GMT after the suspected mortar was reported.
The bomb was placed by staff in the school quadrangle, while officers told people in the immediate area to leave.
A bomb disposal team from Devonport Dockyard have been called to the college.
A Royal Navy spokesperson said the device was thought to have come from a fancy dress outfit as part of the school's mufti day.
Joe Head from the Devon and Cornwall Force said: "The rest of the school has not been evacuated as it's believed the round is an incendiary device and not a high explosive round

That's the one Lemon.
Just heard on the local radio that the bomb disposal team have taken it away, low explosive mortar round containing phospherous.
Kids very hyper!!
Will be watching the local news tonight!
My daughter phoned me complaining of a twisted ankle and can she come home, I told her no 'cos she needed to stay and keep me updated!! Evil mother that I am....:wah::wah:

that's good news i wonder where the kid got it from?Abit worrying that these things may be just lying around in people's sheds -ive heard of this happening before.

I'm glad they had the sang froid to carry on teaching around it, that pleases me.
These things can be picked up in the countryside, the Ordnance Survey helpfully marks the most likely sites in red with "MOD Danger Area". If even one in a thousand don't go off when they land there must be a lot lying about.
What on earth did the pupil go dressed as?
