Do you think re-gifting is proper? Do you do it? I don't, but there seems to be an awful lot of it going around. Opinion anyone?

My family has a porcelin wall plaque with fruit on it that we pass around as a gag gift. My sister gets it back on her birthday New Years Day. :sneaky: I tried to find 5 more of them to give as Christmas gifts to torture the whole family, but I can't find them any where. :wah:

Probably an urban legend -

A man gave his girlfriend just a box of chocolates for Christmas although she had expected more. She gave the chocolates to a work colleague.

Later the boyfriend asked her what she was going to spend the £50 gift voucher on, which he had slipped in amongst the chocolates.

you could make some fake ones by gluing pictures of fruit to paper plates.

Ouch!!

I admit I have done it when I've been so low on cash that I didn't have two nickels to rub together. It was always something that could be passed off as new, nothing that ever looked like it had been used.

I've done it with nice things that didn't appeal to me, but perfect for someone else...and had it done to me with used appliances with parts missing .....

yep thats the idea of re-gifting.

i don't think its a terrible idea, but it can come off as tacky. i only re-gift spontaneously, like if i get something i have a duplicate of. but i don't do it for special occasions.

I think it's a great idea... just so long as the original 'giver' doesn't find out about it. Better hope you've got a good memory and don't give it back to the same person.

I believe if someone gives you a gift, you thank them. After that, what you do with that gift is your business. Whether you keep it for yourself, re-gift it to someone else who might enjoy it, or trash it.
