Not much is known about Syria. The British Liberal media have shown very little interest in informing us about it, whether through sheer lack of interest or because they do not want to give ground to the US, is a matter for speculation.
On the surface Syria appears to be the most calm of the contested States, Yes, we hear rumours about political prisoners, but the human rights groups (invariably leftist Orgs) don’t complain too loudly about Syrias human rights abuses, as their main focus as ever is on attacking The United States.
Definitely Channel4, alBBCa or another member of the ‘quality’ media should send an investigative reporter in to film undercover in Damascus; let’s have the truth please? Because of the veil drawn over its affairs by the media. I don’t doubt that most people think that Syria is perfectly ok; I grant the nation does seem to have a large degree of social cohesion, but there is just no independent footage.
Are people too scared to talk? Do they really want reform? I remember I did not know if all the Iraqis loved Saddam or not to begin with, as the cameras and the liberal media seemed to suggest they did. Yes, to us the great uninformed, Syria does appear to be stable, but…and it’s a big but, Syria is waging war on Iraq and Israel.
In order to save many thousands of Iraqi and Iranian pilgrims at the holy festival of Shura, the Iraqi government have been forced to close the border with Syria for three days. This to protect the Sh’ia worshippers from being butchered by homicide carbombings arranged and paid for by 55 Saddam Senior Intelligence and Military Officers living in Damascus; as well as outsourced Zarquawi Islamist mercenaries in Iraq.
In this way the Syrians are murdering Iraqis in the streets everyday.
If the Syrian Regime shelters the Saddemite Terrorist Command then they themselves are terrorists.
The Syrian regime also welcome Jihadi suicidists into their borders, at best by averting their gaze or at worst by actively assisting them and their entry and exit at the higher levels.
They allow Saddemite Command to arm and to send ba’athist terrorists across the border into Iraq to murder ordinary Iraqi people going about their business in the street, or to assassinate judges, lawyers, doctors, mayors, teachers, policemen. What sort of behaviour is that from a close neighbour?
While opposing the ‘occupation’ of Iraq by the Multinational Forces, Syria says that she will nevertheless continue to occupy Southern Lebanon ‘until asked to leave.’ Heard that before?
Syrias government always reminds me very much of Mussolinis; not in the political style, but the sheer conscienceless arrogance of its sneering, self-confident Regime. Syria must cease giving shelter to a multi-million organisation which is bent on killing Iraqis. If they do not the Iraqis will have to go in and deal with those Ba’athists who are sending them death. Syria should cease meddling in Lebanon and Israel and if her people wish, should become a democracy.
Syria could be a wonderful place, somewhere where we all could find some of our roots; as we do in Greece and Rome. A reformed, democratic Syria has much to teach us. But first they need to regain their wisdom.
There is a fair amount of info that can be found by doing a Google Search.
