Because he can, and he sees it as a threat to him somehow. Lots of dog bark at the vacuum. I know cats that hate the sound of the vacuum as well.

I would say don't vacuum..:wah:

Over time, you can correct this behavior if you want. Depends on the dog
and his willingness to work for/with you.
I'd start by having the vacuum cleaner around all the time. Don't put
it away in a closet or whatever. Leash your dog, and take him by the
cleaner. Carry good treats, tell him leave it, and the first sign of him
walking by, treat him and say good boy. Good leave it. You can also
put his food and water bowls next to the vacuum cleaner. After a certain
length of time, you can start the vacuum when you put his food down.
If he wants to eat, he can't bark at the vacuum. But you should always
have leash control over him, trying to get him to stop barking without
it is very innefectual, you become more like background noise to him, he
doesn't listen to you because he doesn't have to!

Thanks Val. I'm not too worried about it, he only does it when I have the hose on vacuum working. :-4

I hate the noise a vacuum cleaner makes, I'm always tempted to start barking at it too.
