How many people bought something or received something for Christmas that was either broken, missing a part or didn't do what it was supposed to do?
Count me in. A necklace that broke at the clasp. A digital art studio that is missing the software CD. A scanner that converts slides to digital photos but the software freezes and crashes... that's the current list.

I had that happen on my birthday one year. My ex took $500 USD from my money stash and bought me a purse that I hated.

I haven't a clue what a stretchy homer with a pierced nipple and powder falling ot could be... but it's a horrible thought - and hasta win any prize that's going here.. grin. I must be very lucky... got a couple of things I really wanted - a dictionary of French etymology and a pair of very fine nordic trekking poles, a book of Gustav Klimt posters and a set of 'House' DVDs. So far everything works, fabulously.

Thanks Chezzie. I think the reality is even scarier than what I'd imagined.. :sneaky:
We managed to score a copy of the Simpsons Movie... so guess I'll finally get to see where the "Spider Pig" song comes from... sigh

We got our kids TracFone picture phones. Our daughter's SIM card is not compatible with our area even though we bought it less than a mile from here.
They have to send us a new one which was supposed to be here in time for Christmas. We're still waiting. :-1 As promised, when I talked to customer service, I am here to say, DO NOT buy a TracFone.

I think stuff is getting crappier every year.
They can produce electronic devices so cheaply now companies are whipping off toys that claim to do all kinds of things but they just didn't make it properly. I do suspect that the Homer problem was likely an attempt to modernize and he just lost his nipple ring somewhere in the package. He was drunk at the time and probably wishes he'd never gone into the piercing parlour.

Do you know, if that was the case i wouldnt mind so much but the harsh reality is poor manufacturing...The toy was £20 pounds..39.57 us dollars..your supposed to be able to stretch it all day long and it goes back to normal size (oooerrr) she only had a few stretches and at 9 yrs isnt that strong and he gets a hole, so now rendered unplayable....So now I have to hunt down the receipt from Grandma, thats if she kept it to try and get a refund:-5:-5:-5

The stuff that fell apart was all given to the kids. That actually annoys me more. I can deal with returning or repairing something but the kids always look devastated.

I have just read that there is a massive surge in Christmas present resale on EBay. Are these all duds? I braved the after-Christmas sales in Sydney briefly yesterday, and in one big camping equipment store, there was a long line of people returning or exchanging things. So maybe Koan is right.
Are we giving quantity too, rather than quality????? Of all the stuff the littlie (6 years old) here got, you know what he most likes????? A very old fashioned game of Snakes and Ladders, a pack of ordinary playing cards and a calculator. He's already worked out how to do addition, subtraction and multiplication on the last, and even had a first meaningful interface with square roots.
