Damn it to hell! When are we going to learn zoos are wrong?! How many more animals have to be killed before we stop caging them in these bogus habitats?! They're closed out of respect for the victims? That tiger is as much if not more a victim. Last year "keepers" killed TWO bears because ONE clawed a stupid 4 year old whose parents were not paying attention and let him crawl into the bear habitat. These stories continually p.iss me off because no one gets it!! They're not ours to have! :-5

I agree RG, these animals are not supposed to be in captivity in the first place, yet it still continues. I really hate that they put that tiger down. PERIOD

I can't believe they have actually killed the tiger,

its what tigers do, hunt for food, weather human or not.

I happen to disagree about zoos. If humans could control their hunger for worldwide control/destruction, animals would have some habitat left... unfortunately, we can't seem to and many animal species are becoming extinct. If not for zoos, there's a very good chance many animals would be completely extinct right now. It's not a perfect solution, but it's the best we've currently got.

As for the tiger, he mauled someone last year and (I think and I'm too lazy to research it right now) ripped their arm off. I've got all sorts of sympathy for the tiger, but he was apparently a very unhappy guy in his enclosure and I guess the people in charge felt this was the only way to handle it.

He was a beautiful boy, its a shame this happened. :-1

They didn't put the tiger down, the police shot and killed her, because one of the victims was sitting there dazed and out of it beside her and she started to attack him again.

Snooze, the tiger hurt one of the keepers last year, while they were feeding her before a crowd of visitors-the news reports were not specific if it was like "showtime" or something.

I heard a blurb on CNN at one point during the day that the tiger was being taunted, and haven't heard anything since if it was true or not.

Tigers are wild animals, and need to have a natural environment of their own-not a zoo setting with confined quarters, the tiger got out through her own ingenuity-or by some other method. There isn't anything else on that yet either.

But something was definitely wrong, one person died, one tiger died. A thorough investigation of the zoo needs to be done. That zoo is supposed to be known for the tigers it has, and if they are not capable of providing proper care and protection for visitors, an alternative placement should be considered for the big cats.

I personally think that zoos are great along as the zoo provides enough space for the animals.

Zoos have lead to people’s awareness of animals and thus leading to greater efforts to protect animals in the wild.

Zoos have prevented species of animals from becoming extinct, and zoos provide a great education forum for children to learn and see animals that they would otherwise never experience.

Most animals in zoos today are born in captivity and not taken from the wild.

I love bringing my kids to the zoo when they were smaller.

I am sorry for the tiger that was killed, but it is also understandable given the circumstances.

No, the latest report from sources from The San Francisco Chronicle off of CNN says they were taunting the tiger, the one who died was dangling his leg over the enclosure.

Sources close to the investigation told the San Francisco Chronicle that police are probing whether one of the Siberian tiger's three victims climbed over a fence Christmas Day and then dangled a leg or other body part over the moat.

Sh*t. If that happened and they killed that poor tiger for it then those keepers should be shot and killed themselves.

You know someone here asked about world peace. We can't even have respect for other species, how can there be world peace for anyone as long as there are humans?!
