Australia Day - 26 January

Tomorrow, 26 January, is Australia Day and - with my fellow aussies - I will be waving the flag.
Loads of celebrations, citizenship ceremonies, backyard barbies, dancing in the streets, music, eskies full of cold tinnies, beach parties, a ferry race on Sydney harbour and also a tall ships race, more barbies, etc etc fireworks..
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

Hi Kaz and Chonsi!! Just up the street from me there will also be celtic dancing. I might watch that. I'll certainly catch the tall ships. May get out actually on the harbour and watch the races from the water. Sydney Harbour is going to be even busier than usual tomorrow!!!

That sounds awesome, MrsK!!! I hope you have a wonderful celebration. I'm tossing up whether to just stay put and watch all the boatraces or to go to Manly for the day and hit the waves. Of course, to do the latter, I hafta take a ferryboat through the middle of the races... :sneaky:
Ahhhhh I can already smell burning snags and caramelised onion!!! Dripping with tomato sauce .. and all washed down with the amber fluid. Sturth, I'm bloody glad I'm an Aussie!!! (Pam swipes away a blowie)

Happy Australia Day to everyone!! (Even the non-Aussies, we're not greedy)
Hope you all have a great day, remember to wear sunscreen and as most of us will be indulging in the amber fluid, please don't drink and drive, and don't let your friends either! Be safe, be friendly but above all.........BE AUSSIE!! OI!

Been raining on & off all day here, but still really warm.... we have the air-con on! Don't think you'll find many Aussie complaining about rain at the moment though, we need it really badly

Blissful day here. People everywhere round the harbour, in boats, on shore, firing up the barbies, kids, dogs, all done up in red white and blue and waving the flag. Matilda the boxing kangaroo, posh yachts, rowboats. Everyone's singing. All shapes and colours, and from all kinds of places before they became aussies. One lone plane skywriting SORRY. For non-aussies a few limpwristeds wring their hands about the fact Australian Aborigines got conquered a few hundred years ago. Get over it. We all got conquered at some stage. Now we're all fairdinkum aussies. And that includes folk in veils, aborigines, and me, MrsK, Santanico and even the gorgeous goddess with the hairy posterior Grin.
Anyway, the ferry race was a hoot. Four of my favourite regulars were decked out in different colours. I'm not sure whether the Charlotte or the Borrowdale won, but who cares. It was a great race. The tall ships are now doing their thing. And tonight we get fireworks.
Back to the party....
:sneaky:
And I have to stay sober enough to clean up here.. heading to Canberra tomorrow and then to the States, and won't be back in Sydney till March... sob...
