Here's a story in today's Ha'aretz:A Dutch Jewish organization last week condemned the distribution of a postcard showing a manipulated image of Anne Frank wearing a Palestinian kaffiyeh, calling it "a tasteless falsification of history."
[...] In a press release about the postcard, CIDI said the image suggested the Palestinians were persecuted like the Jews during World War II. "Israel and the Palestinians are engaged in a conflict. The Palestinians are not persecuted, there are no extermination camps and there is no genocide," CIDI wrote. It's a striking image none the less. As a way of comparing a teenage girl pent up in a hidden room for years for fear of deportation and death with that of girls her age denied both the upbringing and opportunities most Westerners would take for granted it works quite well. I hope nobody's pretending that teenage girls don't die in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli military actions.

It's an interesting bit of propaganda.
I'd compare it more to S African apartheid but there have certainly been events that indicate Israel has become its own enemy.

It simply isn’t true that Israeli soldiers are going door to door in Gaza looking for Palestinians to load on trains headed for extermination. Quite the opposite, Israel, a nation with the ability to wipe out the Palestinians continues to work on ways to live peacefully with them.
There is blame to share on both sides but to imply Israel’s actions in Gaza are akin to Hitler’s is ludicrous.

It's an image. It urges compassion. It's rather sad that the average Zionist seems incapable of any when it comes to Palestinians.

Peacefully living with them involves not bulldozing thy neighbour's house.

It seems pretty clear the intent was to compare the Palestinian plight to the plight of Jews at the hand of Hitler. I can certainly understand an attempt to draw sympathy. Both sides try that in every conflict but this appears to be way beyond that. I’m sure it will be seen as an extreme exaggeration by most but some will take it personally.

One group's in Anne Frank's shoes, Clint, and the other group isn't. That's what the card's about and it's a visibly authentic comparison.

I'm a little slow but by golly, I think I get it now.

The trick is to ask where the power lies. Every time.

I have heard the comparison made before, by people who are Jewish and were affected by the holocaust. Realistically, a Jew is the only person who can make the comparison without being lambasted. They're just called self-hating Jews.

Israel and the Palestinians are no more engaged in a conflict than the US and Iraq were ever involved in a conflict. The term needed in both cases is turkey shoot, and the only thing restraining the overlords from excessive slaughter is public opinion.

My understanding now is that the card is trying to combine the two symbols "to create an idealistic image in which both states exist alongside one another in peace." I’m willing to accept that explanation. The way things are in Israel today it’s best folks avoid buying trouble.

Overlords come and overlords go. It just depends on who the overlord is today. If the Palastinians had the power do you think they would care about public opinion?

Apartheid or holocaust reinactment, either way Gaza is like one big concentration camp right now.
Blockades cut off food, water, medicine and power. Egypt was asked to close it's borders and not allow Palestinians to leave... they didn't build the facility they just built the wall around it.
btw, Israel recently announced plans to build over 2000 new Jewish homes in East Jerusalem.
After hesitantly voicing their "concern" over Israel's post-Annapolis decision to expand Jewish settlements throughout East Jerusalem, both the United States and the European Union have lapsed into an embarrassed silence.

It's a wonderful lesson not to aspire to power as a nation, isn't it.
If I had to trust a country to be a powerful international arbiter I'd choose one which never in its history had invaded any country outside what it understood to be its national borders.
I'd much rather empower international institutions though.

Given human nature that country would either be occupied by idealists who didn't beleive in invading others (very unlikely) or people who fight amongst themselves too much to move beyond their borders.

Maybe a better comparison might be th the Warsaw ghetto. But there is no iconic image to use for that.

To be honest I feel that it's a tasteless vulgar image, like most agitprop tends to be.
