How can anyone invent something so disgusting about a 25 year old who never in his life had any choice whether he'd be in the public spotlight or not? Is there no sense of fair play left?

Its a joke, which I'm sure, William (assuming he has a sense of humour) would find far more amusing that some of the seriously inaccurate articles he is likely to read about himself.

Why would you think that?
The man has to not only put up with a filthy lie like that being dreamed up in the first place, he then has to pretend to go along with it with a smile on his face or he gets a reputation of humourless thrown in on top of the original offence?
What on earth could be more seriously inaccurate than that article?

As for extreme again... try extreme STILL. I think the crack/whore
comment is over the top. But she did great with it, so I won't try and
stand up for her.
Perish the thought.

I had a good think before I posted it. There's a big difference between "lying to everyone" and "saying to everyone".

Oh yup, mmm-hmmm, big difference alright.
Let's see, I'll have a good think, too.
Okay, here's what I think... that you should stop this kind of stuff,
spot, really you should. If for nothing else than the newbie who comes
along 6 months from now and thinks this kind of stuff is acceptable
here. The newbie who just sees one user calling another one a crack
user and a street whore. You KNOW it will happen. And it cheapens
this Garden for you to operate the way you do.
I know you've heard the phrase "holier-than-thou".
Please just knock it off. PLEASE?

Of course I do, who else in here qualifies? If your spleen weren't glazing your eyes you'd find the thread far more reasonable. For one thing you might recognize that the difference between lying and saying is significant, it completely reverses the meaning of the sentence you complained about.

Oh dear
After reading Spots whore/crack head post, and after I had recovered from the sudden asthma attack that it caused

..... Spot and I did exchange PMs regarding this thread - I personally like to resolve issues with people one-on-one, rather than a public debate. I find that usually misunderstandings or 'hurt feelings' can be resolved in a much friendlier manner, and a quicker conclusion is achieved. In fairness to Spot, that is where his 'Pheasy is thinking...' post came from.
I shall in future take a little more time considering what I find funny vs what may offend.
Valerie has made a good point here regarding Spots responses to some people. This thread and Carollys recent 'Prepare to be shocked' come to mind. I think Spot is a very good moderator, dedicating a lot of his time to FG, and is a valuable member. I would like to see a little more consideration given to a persons track record. Neither myself, or Carolly have ever given anyone reason to believe that we are here to cause trouble. I have been here nearly a year, with 4500 posts. Never having had a post reported, received an infraction or deliberately set out to cause trouble. On those occasions when I may have inadvertently said the wrong thing, I have always either publicly apologized or pm'd. If a person has shown that they are not here to cause trouble, I think a nicer response, to what a moderator considers to be 'out of order', would of be a pm.
I would like to request that in future if someone (with a good track record), posts something that is thought to be inappropriate, that a moderator could pm that person and they discuss the best course of action (ether by deleting the thread/post or modifying it).
I STILL LOVE SPOT - HAPPY VALENTINES DAY DARLIN......DO YOU FEEL THE LOVE? DON'T MAKE ME COME OVER THERE! :-4 I may have trouble getting my leather whip and stash through customs

Why on earth would we do that? spot was replying as a member not as a mod telling you that you shouldn't have posted something based on rules.
Since when is a member not allowed to hold a negative opinion of a thread without it turning into a debate about whether or not they are a good mod for expressing an opinion?
The crack/whore comment was an obvious comparison of a hurtful falsehood that, I think, is a good comparison to the lies that public figures have to tolerate just for being famous... I've never had anyone notice my spleen, let alone comment on it... I thought that rather stunning.
spot is pretty much known as our fact vs fiction snopes detective. Anyone who posts misinformation is likely to find him objecting. Please think for a moment about what that would mean if we start giving infractions to anyone who disagrees with something in a thread. Infractions are affected by precedence. Do you all want to lower the tolerance bar on what can be said at this forum? None of the mods here signed up for the gestapo. We are quite happy to reserve action for those members who post personal information about others in anger, threaten other members and bypass the language filters to throw strings of curses at each other.
Also imagine what reaction we'd get if threads started disappearing because mods were deleting anything that looked questionable. :-3
I haven't watched the video. I'm imagining it was funny... just untrue.

Check out my post #10. If it had JUST been that, it might not have
been so bad. I said in that post that Pheasey handled it great.
But the pattern of behavior for him has been well established by now.
And *I* have used Snopes in the past with people, too. It was very
well received as I recall. There's a way to do it and a way not to do
it, plain and simple. And spot goes about it the wrong way. It's
gotten to the point that posting even the most innocent item is
taking a chance that spot will jump in and tromp all over it and you.
What was it Carolly said... she could say the sky was blue and spot
would say no it isn't it's green and here's why? That's what it feels like.
As a member yes he's entitled to his opinion. As a mod he's edged over
into power mad. And YES that's only an opinion, but one I share with
many.
And lying or saying, I don't know when we've "lowered the bar" so
much that people, be they mods or not, can get away with that kind
of thing. Last time I looked, I believe when you report a post it
said something about "rude" or " harassing"? The posts in question
were downright rude, at the very least. I don't see anyone saying
he should get an infraction for disagreeing. I don't think that, either.
Overpowering and overwhelmig people is not the way to get the
Garden to grow. He ran off someone who had FIVE POSTS, for
goodness sakes.
High time he learned how to control himself a bit better.

Right, so this is about other postings as well, not just this thread?? All I can see, and this is just my humble opinion, is Spot makes a post that some see as objectionable, and in come others to have a dig.
Spot is Spot, he's always been Spot, in the three years I've been here he's never been any different and I've never seen him be downright nasty to anyone, he's been provoked and he's responded harshly. Spot is good at heavy sarcasm, he's also good at giving a justified arguement and making me stop, think and change opinion over something.
Out of interest, how can Spot be seen as any different to Nomad and his flippant remarks to some of the newbies??
Surely this is just a case of different personalities coming through and different people taking them literally or in humour?
I don't know, maybe there is more going on behind the scenes, I certainly think that whatever is going on here has been an ongoing thing for some time, can we not just Live and let Live??

And there are many that don't see any problem at all. FG is very diverse in the type of people that post here. We will never all get along. You mention patterns and there are lots of patterns that are visible depending where one looks.
"Power mad" does not apply to any of the mods at FG. It is set up in a way that doesn't allow for such behaviour. Power at FG is only in the eye of the beholder. Ignoring people works fairly well.

I wonder whether I can make a point or two without being heckled from the sidelines by the claque? Probably not, but I'll give it a go.
What I asked was "How can anyone invent something so disgusting about a 25 year old who never in his life had any choice whether he'd be in the public spotlight or not? Is there no sense of fair play left?". That's an entirely fair question and goes to the root of involuntary "celebrity". Why is Prince William fair game for this attempt at humour? I don't think he is. I think the attempt at humour on that spoof site was in itself in awesomely bad taste and the authors of it sit in pools of their own stale vomit. The story they wrote disgusts me.
Pheasy said it was as nothing compared to other stories Prince William is going to have to put up with as he goes through life. That may well be true but it completely dodges the question. The story on the spoof site is untrue, it is blatant fiction about a living person written with no attempt at accuracy or good taste.
I asked Pheasy in a follow up why Prince William should have to pretend to find stories like this funny, and again I leave that as an open unanswered question. How false must a story be before one can afford not to smile in public at it?
Ah, said Pheasy - but it might be true. That I found outrageous (bear with me as you read this post Pheasy, I have no problem at all with you, we were discussing a reasonable question before Valerie changed the course of the thread), to blur the line between fact and fiction when the question under discussion was the original falsity of the spoof. We'd both agreed it was fiction and you introduced - sneakily, you claimed - the outside chance that the story might be true in any case. No, it couldn't be true. Bad as the spoof was, to suggest that it might have fire behind the smoke is exactly why I found the spoof offensive in the first place. People, as I said, need the benefit of the doubt. I introduced an example of why. In the same sentence I made it quite clear that the suggestion was a lie. Even voiced as "this is a lie" it's a shocking thing to see written down, just as the original claim in the spoof article was. I do hope the sentence went some way to showing why "how do you know .... it might be true" is an appalling comment with regard to an abusive fiction. People deserve the benefit of the doubt.
As for Valerie and Pants, that's the smoke that goes with the territory - opportunists circling the blood in the water hoping to inflict damage. If that's the way you want to paint yourselves go ahead, but it's overly lurid for me to find any interest in it.

[QUOTE=spot;776387] The story they wrote disgusts me.
And the person who thought it would be amusing to post it on FG, was pretty low too :wah:
In all honesty I had not considered the story from Spots angle. I actually thought it would be an amusing way of starting a 'Mile High Club' discussion.:sneaky: Got that one wrong :-5 How easy it is to unintentionally start a war.
Spot and I have been discussing this behind the scenes, and as BB pointed out Spot is Spot - I just need to remember to have my asthma pump handy when reading one of his responses to my threads.
I think this thread has now turned into an arena for old/new grievances. I am going to start again.

Having met Spot I feel that I would just like to point out that he is a very kind, generous and good natured man. I know of few people who would let a group of almost total strangers descend on his house and doss all over the place. He put himself out for us that weekend and ensured that a good time was had by all.
I trust Spot to think before he posts, to also be fair in his judgements but he is human and can make mistakes and like most really intelligent people does tend to underestimate the impact of his criticism!!
Before this turns into an 'I adore Spot' fest I'd also like to say that so much of what he says goes completely over my head being a bear of very little brain!!!! And I don't think he entirely 'gets' my humour at times!! Poor man...
