We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we are able to go on a nice vacation or when we retire.
The truth is there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges.
It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Happiness is the way.
So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with... and remember that time waits for no one.
So, stop waiting
Until your car or home is paid off.
Until you get a new car or home.
Until your kids leave the house.
Until you go back to school.
Until you finish school.
Until you lose 10 lbs.
Until you gain 10 lbs.
Until you get married.
Until you get a divorce.
Until you have kids.
Until you retire.
Until summer.
Until spring.
Until winter.
Until fall.
Until you die.
There is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one's watching.........

I find your list of stages in life alot easier to handle the older I get.
And its so much easier to handle these stages - and I see friends reaching out to me for advise on different situations, which opens avenues they wouldn't see.
Things are going to happen - how you handle the situation makes all the difference in the world.

I think as you get older you do realise that you should live for today, get the most out of life etc. but its no good telling the young what you have learned, they have to go through it themselves, i bet we didnt listen to good advice when we were younger:rolleyes::wah:

I think the best thing I've done for myself is to stop taking myself and life too seriously. Laughter is the best elixir around. :wah:In life I guess everything we own in life is only borrowed.I love Antiques and as I sit here looking at so many lovely things it hits me that one day they will belong again to somebody else.As I get older the more this hits me and a sort of saddness comes over me.I know that I will have to sell some of it as I do like clutter but its got to the point here that its takin over and I have to admit the older I get I am finding it all to much .My trouble is I get so attached to things and thats what makes it so hard.I have a huge collection of dolls also...........I know this goes back to my childhood but Im a grown woman fgs and we wont even talk about the teddies:rolleyes:;)

OMG Carol, you do have stuff.
You mentioned '50's & '60's kitchen ware is very collectible - yes it is - by me..
I collect everything RED - '50's RED handle ware - rolling pins - Betty Crocker Cook Books - there's not much I haven't collected in RED. I've never collected Dolls, although I have a few.
I've down sized my collections - and things get demoted from time to time - of course there are somethings I'd never part with..
Kaz - I'm not sharing advise with a 22 yr old. - Yes they'll find out the good - bad & ugly on their own - its a waste of spit - they're going to do what they want anyway.
I have girlfriends recently divorce - haven't dated in 27 yrs - absolutely no street smarts - wow can they make a mess of things..
Carol - do you have a store - or are those pictures your house?
I don't know about you - but I can't/don't dust too often - just don't touch..:wah:

Too funny, yes, I blow the dust off - sometimes I have to take a little vacuum to it.!
Whats a teasmade? Tea balls?
I've got alot of old 45's - no Juke Box yet
I so enjoy my stuff & how I have it all displayed/incorporated into my home.
I wish life now was as simple and carefree as the '50's.

PatsyA teasmade Patsy basically is a clock with 2 pots. One boils water when you set the time on the clock and the other pot you pour your hot water into where you have already put your tea. It was left on the side of your bed so you could wake upto a cup of tea.The 50s one were very popular for the guys into all that but they went onto make them for quite a few years after that.Heres an old one for you to look at;)

I do sometimes enjoy my life (getting back on topic ), I used to be a bit OTT to the point when my young son (7 at the time) would 'tick me off' because I embarassed him with my whoopee cushion in the middle of a department store ! It would not have been so bad, only there were two elderly ladies within hearing just behind me that I had not noticed :yh_rotfl.
A couple of years ago, at hallowe'en, I thought I would get my own back on all the children who came round 'trick or treating'. I have a very realistic rubber skull mask, which is years old, and I undid my long white hair from it's pony tail, combed it all out, put the mask on and arranged the hair so it hid the elastic and the edge of the mask. I wrapped a white bed sheet over my head and round my body, and the whole thing looked rather realistic and gruesome. When the door bell rang next time, I answered the door (we have an outside light), and was met by half a dozen youngsters dressed as witches ---- I think you could have heard the screams two streets away, and I haven't seen children leg it so fast ! My husband came out of the door with me and called them back. They weren't too sure at first, till he explained that it was his wife, but that I was not feeling very well that evening ! We gave them some sweets, and they eventually laughed at the spectacle and wanted me to go round with them to other houses, but I had to decline cos I didn't want to give any old dears a heart attack !!!
So you see I do sometimes enjoy my life, because I believe you should make the best of everything that you can, and laugh about things in life.
At the moment there are things happening in my life, which I would prefer weren't happening. But I feel that I am coming to terms with certain things and consequently the 'old me' is gradually coming back. My husband and my son (who is now an adult), are beginning to wonder if I will be as 'bad' as I used to be : I really hope so, cos life is too blinkin short to be miserable and have no fun.
A few months ago we (my hubby, son, and I ) had to go to an office to fill in some forms and attend an appointment. At the reception desk, the lady asked various questions and wrote down the answers, then she asked for our address, so I gave it to her and when it came to the town I said Thingy, and as I had spelt out the previous parts of the address I started spelling out T ....h .....i......n....g.....y and she was busily writing down what I was spelling, then she looked at it, then looked up at me and saw me grinning, she gave me a 'tut' then burst out laughing, and I gave her the proper town name. Well there were other people sitting in the waiting area, looking as miserable as sin, and it was good to see the poor woman laughing, in such a miserable place.
So from time to time, I do enjoy my life - certainly when I can make others laugh a bit. It is true, my 'signature' , I am a 'Saga lout, growing old disgracefully' :yh_whistl
