Up until a couple of years ago, I didn't bother to cover up around my kids (I don't mean deliberately strutting naked around the house). I mean, they could come and talk to me in the shower, or if I was getting dressed. Even now Lucy (7 years) and I will sometimes share a bath, or chat away as we get dressed. Although I have not allowed Josh to do this for a couple of years. DH still doesn't cover up.
My USA friends were horrified! We also discussed other things that are acceptable in the UK but frowned upon in the US. Like nudity on TV, and page 3 girls. She went into a state of shock :wah:
Is it just me, or is it a 'different country' thing?

I think it's the US's attitude regarding sex & nudity. We equate nudity=sex. As for the shower thing, all my kids took a shower with me till the age of 5. Big deal. They only get in to do the same thing your doing, washing hair/body and my kids never touched me. Of course, I always kicked up the notch on the drain so it then became a bath for them and I would get out. Oh, would your friends be shocked that all of my kids slept in my bed w/hubby for 5 yrs and the last one is still there:wah:and is almost 7. Refuses to sleep in his bed-IDK:wah:

I'm not sure if its a country thing as much as a "how you were raised" thing maybe...which of course does then go back to the culture you live in as well.
I remember about 3-4 years ago and I was playing on a game site, I used to play backgammon with people all around the world....and there was this young girl from somewhere like Spain, I can't remember exactly, maybe Greece???? I know big difference, but to me its all foriegn Anyway, she was telling me how she needed to go, when her dad got home they had to take their "family" shower, she had a younger brother around 9 years old and she was 14 or 15, and her mom and dad and brother all showered together....I honestly thought it was a joke, someone messing with me, because of course I was HORRIFIED!! I never talked to her again and have had a hard time with that memory, even if she was messing with me, there are families that do that, and I was brought up in a culture very different than that, I just don't think it would be a good thing to see Daddy naked ....

Yep we also go nekked in the house, not like walk round butt naked but bedroom, shower etc...Its never been made a big deal of tbh.
Now my eldest is 10, she wants more privacy when it suits her, or when she remembers and thats fine, we give it her.
Now and again me and the girls have a shower together even now, and when we go swimming its communal changing room etc..
I see no problem in it when kids are young but once their teenagers, I think you have to think of their feelings and go with the flow so to speak.:-4

For those of you who don't know what 'page 3' is - its in one of the UK daily newspapers (and others). The link below shows some of the girls, although the actual paper does not usually have a 'get todays pic on your mobile' banner across the breasts :wah:
OMG, yes he wiggles all night long. Never bothers me but drives hubby right up the wall. Always kicking the covers off all night long (he sleeps in the middle), kicking hubby. I do get a better night of sleep though, cause hubby likes to cuddle and that drives me crazy. All I want to do is go to sleep and not have him on me, so I like when Q sleeps w/us and that way I can finally get some rest:wah:

You have to go a little careful where I live - lots of mosquitoes - you end up with bumps where there should not be bumps

I grew up sleeping in a bed in the hall of our family home until I was almost 5 then I was shipped out to the bunkhouse with my older brothers till I left home. In the bunkhouse running around in underwear was common and there were plenty of normal jokes about all that including the pee hole for winter use... of course the pee hole was never big enough. :wah:
I recall a few uncles that we hunted with that would jump in thier sleeping bags naked.
And its kinda of funny but my mother sewed up the flys to our boxershorts, she did not want 'it', falling through our flys should she need to come out to the bunkhouse in the night.
I cannot recall ever crawling into bed with my parents, in fact we would stop at the door and knock, as a child I dont recall ever actually going in my parents room. As a young adult I built them a bathroom in their room and then of course went in, I remember thinking how wierd it was.
My kids come to our bedroom door and knock then come in, if the door is closed they wait till we call them in.

I agree that many Americans, based on culture and media, have come to believe that nudity automatically equals sexuality. Unfortunate, in my opinion. A body is a body. Big deal.
I don't consider myself an exhibitionist (because I'm not deriving some sexual pleasure by being publicly nude) but I really don't care who sees me naked. Of course, there's the issue of safety. I certainly wouldn't get naked in a situation where being nude could be dangerous, like bars for example! :-3
LOL, this reminds me of a funny story. Just recently I fell outside of where I work because the parking lot was really slippery. So I went limping back inside to make out an incident report and was showing my really big bruise to anyone who wanted to see.... it was on my lower hip which happened to also expose my bum! No one cared. I work with a bunch of RN's. So, in that situation, nudity is no big deal, and it was quite funny!!

Being naked was pretty laid back in my house growing up. We were 3 girls.
Of course, we did not run around naked around my dad, or he us, beyond the age of maybe 4. But with my mother, no big deal, I was very relaxed about being naked around my 2 sons, maybe until they were 4 or so. But even then, no one ever jumped through the roof, if they were walked in on. I always felt bad for girls who I would see actually hide when changing clothes in front of other women. And Ive been with men who have had naked issues.
The only reason I would feel self conscious now about being seen naked, would be because of body image issues. Overall, I think that casual nudity is a good thing, it erases self conciousness and promotes a healthy personality.

I've never had a problem with being naked around my daughter, I'm not at my best with my clothes off but I want her to grow up with a healthy attitude towards her own body so if I can show that I'm comfortable with my own middle-aged flabby body then she's got absolutely nothing to worry about.
She's a teenager now so she needs and expects a certain amount of privacy and she gets it. Her dad has ensured that his 'bits' remain covered up at all times when she's around but we all swim together so seeing him in his pants is no big deal to her.
I remember seeing my parents naked when I was very small but by school age that stopped. I'm more relaxed about it than they were but I think that's a generational thing.

I'm very modest myself.
The US is freakin' schizophrenic about sexuality and nudity. We're appalled by overt behaviors in public but we have billboards and magazine ads that all but promise heightened sexual prowess and response by buying anything from cars to beer. Full frontal nudity in the movies is gasp-worthy but it's nothing to see graphic violence on television any more.
You lot in the UK are much more open, and so I've found here as well. How we Americans ever got the impression you people were straight-laced and buttoned up is a mystery. :-3:wah:

I do think children need to learn modesty. But they also need to learn that the human body is not something shameful. It's a matter of healthy common sense. For instance, a mother sewing up the fly on a child's pajamas is, to me, extraordinary. Respecting individual privacy is good, but being able to change in or out of swimclothes in a group, without embarrassment or offence, is also good. Aussies are probably fairly relaxed with nudity.

well the way I see it is this...Your born with no clothes, man made the clothes and now its the done thing to walk round clothed but I feel the naked body should not be seen as a bad thing but just a person in their birthday suit. I feel people should be allowed to do what the hell they like within their own home and as long as all concerned are happy with how that family operates within the home. Such as today, my two girls 10 and 8 had a shower and just wrapped a towel round and then into my room where they dried and dressed, if we walked by or they shouted for help, they dont feel self conscious about themselves, same if we do this also, of course its nice to have privacy and we all give it to each other if need be.
Their is no point other than not to make a big issue of the fact that your naked infront of your family etc...
We are all different and what works for one, may not work for another. I would never go to a nudist beach or a nudist colony but I see no harm in it, its just not my cup of tea.
