The St. Patrick's Day Thread

I know...the celebration is actually March 17th.
Every year in Savannah, Georgia, there is a parade (this year March 14th- Friday) and a weekend long party on River Street. The fountain in the park is flowing with green water and people are eating green grits and drinking green beer. Me....I stay home and watch highlights on local TV. I am adding some pics. Enjoy.

AlongForTheRide - I LOVE Savannah, GA !!!!!!! One of my fav American places. Here, I haven't decided what to do yet for St P's Day. Will probably head for one of the many ceilidhs, flute in hand and jam a bit. As for food - I usually make soda bread and some kind of guinness pie. Though, I think, last year I went for a dish with scallops. It's Friday here now, so I have the weekend to think about it. Slainte mhaith!

God bless the Holy Father and all that... :sneaky: .... but I don't need any of those wizened old men to tell me when St Pat's day is. It's Monday 17 March. HOWEVER - I'm perfectly happy to dance a jig on Saturday and Sunday too. As fer the big celebrations - I think this is an export type feast, maybe reimported nowadays back to Ireland for tourism purposes. But hey, who cares - let's not let any reality checks get in the way of a good party.

Somehow I don't think the Irish would let a silly thing like a date get in the way of a good party! They'll be celebrating all weekend (and week) long!!

Last weekend they had the Philly Irish pub crawl after the big parade and I think they are doing it this weekend too. Hey, it is a big deal in the city of Philly, PA all things green. As for dinner, those scallops sound good and I think I will some scon too. :wah:

The corn beef and cabbage was yummy. Also had potatoes.
Happy Saint Patricks Day to all.
Hard to believe next Sunday is Easter. Time goes by fast enough.

My littlie went off to school not only in a green teeshirt but he insisted on green undies too.
I am hosting a dinner this evening to celebrate, and am about to start cooking. I have finally decided we will have individual pie appetisers of scallops and mushrooms in mustard and herb sauce, followed by bacon and cabbage and potatoes. All a bit stodgier than is usual in this household, particulary in the current heat. Green grapes for dessert.

We had a St. Patrick's Day party at work last night. Hubby made corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. I made sloppy joes and green devilled eggs. Hubby deejayed it. The place was packed! We didn't expect half the crowd we got. I think everyone had a good time.

Let me ask you...............What would a ST. Patricks Day thread be without mentioning the magical moment of kissing the Blarney Stone to get the gift of gab at the Blarney Castle?

I actually once did that!!! It seemed like a good idea at the time.
