Have any of you seen this foreign film yet? It's been in the theaters for about a month or two; I saw it On Demand on the day it was released.

The film is set in Communist Romania in the final years of the Nicolae Ceauşescu era (the late 80s, I believe). It tells the story of two students, roommates in a university dormitory, who try to arrange an illegal abortion.

It's pretty powerful and haunting.

Nomad :)

It has won several awards, including a big one at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007.

It was not eligible for an Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Film category (I forget why), but the general consensus was that it would have definitely taken the Oscar. :-6

I watched it alone. Somehow it was more powerful that way. :-3

It's more of a drama and a snapshot of what life was really like under Communist rule.

In that way, it is kind of a scary movie, if you know what I mean. :-6

I watched this last night. I enjoyed it. Very unusual and as Cher said haunting. I especially liked the long drawn out camera shots on subtle stares or of a character thinking.

I was hoping to experience more of Romania in the film, the way they live, think, the culture etc but the film was essentially about 2 main characters so it is what it is.

Good film.
