The depravation evidence is all too clear. LAC have the worst outcomes when it comes to social, physical and psychological wellbeing - translated into the highest rates of teen pregnancy, poor physical & mental health, employment opportunities, and once they reach 18 years isolation & homelessness. They often have no idea of their rights. The majority don't know they can choose an independent advocate - someone/ anyone who can act on their behalf and visit at will with total confidentality.
In both private and statutory care the quality of staff is abismal. Some worse than others, and foster care is no exception.
Qualifications: 'Attend a one or two day course' - ' put it on a CV ' and hey presto!!! ....................your qualified to deal with the hearts, heads and souls of the most vulnerable of vulnerable kids.
In the UK the cost for one child in the private sector is appox £3,000 month.
The paper diarrhoea PR (glossy brochures) is SUPPOSED to provide quality care, which promises the usual daily needs, expert 'clinical Psychology, access to psychiatric support as well as 1st class Education, on site or elswhere. :sneaky:
Try cold calling any day between 10-12 am > no access> all still in bed.
Woe betide a outside agency-professional getting involved. The kids are moved on, out of area faster than one can write a referral for help.
The Doller Kids Business is what takes priority

.
If 100% monitoring is what it takes to ensure LAC care and wellbeing then that is what it takes. It's too easy to give financial backing/assistance then blow trumpet with head in sand.
NO challenge in having staff/carers experience and qualifications checked by a professional yearly?.......By one who knows the difference between bogus and genunine quality!!!!.
NO challenge in demanding staff update their knowledge & skills periodically as other professionals have to do.
NO challenge to ensure that all staff are police checked yearly.
No challenge in having spot checks written into policy and procedures.
No challenge in ensuring each new young person has all the information they are entitled to.
No challenge to ensure LAC have equal access to the health and social care/activities/opportunities as their peers in family settings
It's just good business sense for a fair return.
!00%. Top grades. Great post. Wonderful insight. Couldn't have said it better. Thanks for the words.
