We are going in June. I guess it will be better than all this rain we are getting right now.
I just need to get my young head on, and stop thinking about golden beaches and less people.

Ah, so your waiting till the kids get out of school? I've been to Disneyland out in California, but that was 20 yrs ago in September. Did the whole thing and there were no lines because everyone was back to school. My BIL goes down to FL every summer in August and they say it is soooooooo hot & humid, but they wait for the rides.

we lived in Orlando for 10 years and were just there for a visit 2 weeks ago. You'll love it! It's beautiful and there's SO much to do. Oh! And you can take care of any food/drink cravings while you're there. A lot of British people live there and there are lots of pubs and British grocery stores and even the main grocery stores, like Publix, carry British products! I'm babbling

can you tell I love it there.

Do you have a AAA membership? They have tons of discounts for vacations, places to eat, etc.

We went to Disneyland a few years back and survived - mostly by letting the kids loose and watching them enjoying themselves
Whatever else you do you must visit the "It's a Small World" exhibition - it teaches so much about other countries and the music is wonderful :yh_rotfl

Naughty Bryn! My daughter loved that, it's bloomin' awful!!!
Pheasy, I hate the heat and the crowds but loved Disney, Animal Kingdom is my fave, you'll love the shows and the kids'll love the rides and the characters.
We also went to Discovery Cove and swam with dolphins - amazing experience and worth every penny.

Hello Pheasy:-4
I've been to Disneyland in California and absolutely loved it:-4 I've often wanted to go to Disney World in Orlando but haven't because I'm with kids and crowds all day. But, one day in a million years when I retire, I'll go in the fall when the crowds have gone .
But, my friends who do go during the summer...naturally hate the long lines and heat, but they feel that it's worth it. They love Disney World. There's sooooooooooooooooo much to do there....it's not only for kids. I think that you'll love it:-6.

okay, here's the deal.... just got back two weeks ago...:wah:
when you get to magic kingdom, turn right into tomorrow land... turn right again into buzz lightyears ride.. OMG!!
my first thought was alrighty then fun day ahead for mom... but by time we came out of that ride and i had kicked the 8 year olds butt with my score( yes we get to shoot and spin ..it's awesome!!)... it set the tone for the rest of the day.
we actually spent longer in lines for food and drink then we did waiting to ride rides.
busch garden was a blast! animals everywhere and both water and land rides, divided up into age sections kinda... really nice! and a train that rides you all around the park to see where you want to head..
seaworld is very spread out but OMG!! SHAMU SHAMU!!! :-4 and you can buy food for feeding the sea lions... got tired of walking and so decided to rent a paddleboat ...DUH... her legs didn't reach...guess who got to paddle for a half an hour straight!
kennedy space center kicked my kids butt BIGTIME!!! they have a shuttle launch simulater that was more fun then most of the rides at the amusement parks!
anyhoot... if you save your back by not being the designated souvenir carrier... you are going to have way more fun then you expect! i promise!:D

Pheasy, Disney is all about imagination so you have to get yours ready before you go.
I've been to Disneyland and loved it but here are some things I thought of:
Wear comfy shoes and clothes. You don't want to be having sore feet in the ride lines.
Eat and drink before you really need to so you don't have cranky kids as you're waiting in the loooong food lines.
Go to the bathroom often- again before you need to.
Drink lots of water!
Hug Goofy!
Make yourself have a good time because you'll have happy kids and that you won't forget or regret.

I have the solution.....stop on your way through VA and pick me up, I'll be sure and help you realize that you are NOT to old for Disney World!! You'll be too busy laughing at me !!:wah:
Seriously, you will have a blast, I have never been and would LOVE to go. Living 25 minutes from Kings Dominion (which I know is NO comparison to Disney World) I agree with other people's advice....comfy comfy comfy and carry as little as possible. I used to love the stroller days, because everything would get thrown on and under the stroller...including the kids!!
My kids went to Universal Studios and Sea World with my parents about 4 years ago and are still talking about it!
My grandparents own a home 30 miles from Orlando, I have threatened for 11 years to go down and stay there and take the kids to D.W., but well.....perhaps next year!--that is if you don't pick me up this summer!
As for the heat, I don't think June will be as hot as it will be in July and August, but then again...what do I know...I can't even find my invisible jet half the time!:wah:

Disneyland is the best, as a kid growing up in L.A. we got to try out every new area opened as fast as our parents would take us. Nothing better than going into a fantasy world for a few days, where your heart will be like a child's again.

Actually its not as bad as you've stated
We were there in 1997 so I was 40 yrs old
I enjoyed it and had fun. Yes we waited in line for the rides etc.
Everything in life - WAIT - it'll be worth the wait..
Enjoy - have patience - and a open mind to a hextec experience - just watch the joy it brings to your kids
You'll smile

Plan your days well, they say start at the back of the park and work forwards, it's hard to drag the kids past stuff but it works.
Use the fastpass system it really cuts down on queuing time.
Food and drink is not cheap in the parks, take your own snacks and save money for souvenirs.
We made sure that not every day was spent going on rides etc, Typhoon Lagoon is a brilliant chill out day and the surfing wave - wow!!
If you see a character with a long queue for autographs be prepared that you may not get to them - they only stay for so long, get to that queue as soon as you can!
The fireworks at Epcot are well worth staying on for. We made a point of going to the parks later in the morning if we were going to stay late - not so tiring.
Make sure you have lots of film or a big memory card for your camera - you'll need it!
