Singer Sewing Machines

I'm about to explore the ups and downs of a Singer sewing machine model 2517C
a guy at work just bought one second hand and it doesn't have a manual so I'm going to show him how to thread it, wind a bobbin and thread the bobbin. I'm not sure if the tension settings will be right but I'm hoping it'll successfully start sewing without shredding anything. I'm not too familiar with what stitches do what and what the normal tension is for various fabrics so any pointers in advance will be helpful.
They want $15 for a manual online so I'm going to wing it.
