It was all very low key. I was in the office on other business when the principal's secretary/everything calls me in. "Have you signed your contract yet?" she says.

I laughed, embarassed. "You mean I've been here almost a year and never signed my contract?"

"No. I mean for next year."

Just like that. She slid a letter saying something about my acknowledging something and that the contract would arrive in three weeks ... or something. I was so stunned I forgot to put on my reading glasses. For all I know I took financial responsibility for her kids.

Of course I signed it!

So, with all the pomp of offering someone a tissue, I've been acknowledged as a professional educator. I've been invited back for another round. I'm still a bit numb.

:-6 Thanks guys! I probably wouldn't have gone for it without all my FG friends, especially Chonsi. She's my hero and what I want to be like, should I ever grow up. The Garden gives me lots of opportunities to examine myself and my motivations. The Gardeners give me courage to take the risk.

Duck, I'm teaching high school special education. I'm in charge of the behavior management unit. Mostly higher-level learners with a wide variety of emotional disorders. Everybody acknowledges it as the toughest job in the school, but I really feel I'm where I belong.

YZ, We don't have that many white kids in the whole school. :wah: We're 99% Hispanic, so sometimes I feel mighty white, especially when another teacher says to a student, "Mija, don't be such a chola! You know you're not allowed to wear chaklas." :-2 but I'm learning too.
