Before I was a Mom

With Mothers Day around 3 weeks away, i've been thinking about what i feel as a mother, this sums it up perfectly, i'm sure anyone here who is a mother would agree.:)

Before I Was a Mom

i never tripped over toys of forgot words to a lullaby,

i didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous,

i never thought about immunizations,

Before i was a Mom i had never been

puked on

pooped on

chewed on

peed on

i had complete control of my mind and my thoughts

i slept all night

Before i was a Mom

i never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests

or give shots,

i never looked into teary eyes and cried,

i never got gloriously happy over a simple grin,

i never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep

Before i was a Mom

i never held a sleeping baby just because i didn't want to

put them down.

i never felt my heart break into a million pieces when i

couldn't stop the hurt,

i never knew that something so small could affect my life so much,

i never knew that i could love something so much,

i never knew i would love being a Mom

Before i was a Mom

i didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body,

i didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby,

i didn't know that bond between a mother and her child,

i didn't know something so small could make me feel so

important and happy

Before i was a Mom

i had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to

make sure all was okay

i had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the

wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom

i didn't know i was capable of feeling so much, before i was a Mom

I agree with you Hope. The gift of a child is the most precious thing a mother can have. I had no idea what I was in for when I had my first child. Then whenshe was born gone was my sleeping all night, raging with my friends, just picking up my bag and going out, staying in the same clothes all day and so many other small things. Well I ended up having 4 children and the deep love I have for them is so un believable, its a love I never thought I had in me and I feel blessed that I have been able to experience this love and the journey my children have taken me.:-4

you're so right Kay, i never knew i could love something so much, and the fact that i never thought i could have children makes it even more precious to me.

my sleeping all night is gone too, but i wouldn't trade this experience for the world and i'm looking forward to the journey baby Jacob will take me on:-4

yeah when Jacob was on a bottle i loved that feeding too! i would just sit there and hold him even after he had finished the bottle and gone back to sleep i would still sit there not wanting to put him down. i guess i was just so amazed at the miracle that i was holding in my arms that sometimes it was hard to believe it was real!:-4
