I am trying to get a collection of classical music. I don't want to wear out the few I have. I am picky though. I don't want anything real loud or rambunctious sounding....I would like something relaxing and even dark or sad...something I can have in the background when I'm doing other stuff where I can allow my mind to wander.

I currently only have the following on repeat:

Mozart's Piano Concerto 23 Adagio

Ravel's "Le Gibet" from Gaspard de la Nuit

Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata

Any help?

Thanks you guys! I'm still working on downloading a lot of the ones you've suggested so I'll come back here as I listen to them. I use Limewire and it takes a while to collect them all.

Go on to you tube and search for every composer you can think off. get a free taster of the best bits from each one as people seem to post their favourite bits. I find I like bits of most not not necessarily all composers. if that makes sense. Do you like everything zz top did?

don't forget opera. You don't have to listen to a whole one to enjoy the music

I am glad you are using good music to set the tone for uplifting thoughts in your home. Try anything by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Tchaikovsky.Also Gershwin,Schubert,Mozart,Handel, Chopin,Haydn, or nearly anything at Bookmans in the classical music section of their store. I know you live in the Arizona area I live in. Look up Bookman's!!!

There are a lot of modern Classical artists to listen to. Try Craig Armstrong. Weatherstorm is a very well known piece by him

Craig Armstrong's work is predominantly film score but it all works very well on its own.

I think that I would recommend Adrina Thorpe to you. She is not main stream so you don't have to worry about corny music or catchy beats. she has a very relax sound and her music has some sad elements to it. I will warn you that it isn't classical music but I would dare say that after listening to a song or two it won't matter. she's on myspace if you want to try her out (which I would recommend if you are serious).

you should also take a listen to arden kaywin...shes more along the tori amos and alanis morrisette type music...but both arden and adrian are really talented musicians. look at their myspace to listen to their songs and tell me what you think.
