What are your thoughts on Carpooling?

Do you, or will you, or if not, why not?

Hi Cars, yes I have 3 kids in school and trade off on the pickups in the afternoons but only if it is raining. It's been nice and warm lately so the kids walk home in the afternoon. The heck with the other two that I normally would pick up in the afternoon. My other daughter goes to high school and she switches off with a friend and they both pick up at least 3 people each.

If I had someone going to my school, I would carpool. It makes a lot of sense, with gas prices going up.

Hi ducks, yes I'm sure sharing the rides for kids between parents is almost a must these days. It's only fair, that the parents sort of take their tour of duty, so to speak!

I was kind of alluding to the skyrocketing cost of gas.

I remember when I was working, I drove solo, & I had to fill the gas tank once a week to the tune of about $22. Now filling that same tank would cost about $43, and it would be rising daily! $43 x 4 would be $ 172/mo. (That's just to work, no recreational driving) With that kind of monthly gas bill just going to work, I believe I would have definately considered carpooling. (Especially since 3 neighbors worked at my company, but we had different working hours. If it were now, we would have made the hours similar)

I think Carpooling is a great idea for the enviornment.

The inconvenience is being at a location at a certain time daily

being cozy in a vehicle with others

having to wait on them

having to listen to them

having to smell them

Get the picture

it's not for me

Patsy brings up really good points....I've lived them before... A LONG time ago, when I was a teenager and my mom and our neighbor and two other people that lived nearby carpooled over an hour away from the company the all worked for. I worked with them one summer vacation when I was 15 or 16 years old, and for the most part it was okay, except for the only male in the car....he was rude, arrogant and flicked his boogers all over the car, and I'm still not over it to be honest! (we are talking about 25 years ago)

I think car-pooling is a great idea and I know there are a lot of van-sharing/car pooling in my area to travel up to Wash. DC....I've always been fortunate enough to have a job within a 25 mile radius, and for that I'm thankful.....but if it came down to me having to use public transportation or car-pooling, I would at least try it and keep an open mind.....

All good reasons why "Not" to carpool. However, hopefully there will not come a time when the price of gas possibly reaches $7 to $8 /gal which would almost force most into carpooling! :wah:

No way Cars......I would rather ride my bike the 10 miles to school rather than carpool:thinking::thinking:I need all the peace and quiet I can get before work starts:wah:

The price of gas is getting to the point that I'm seriously thinking of trading in my S-10 pickup for a commuter car, but to pool ain't for me.

Granted, it would probably help me with my time management, if I had to be ready to leave work by a certain time.

I don't drive but if I did, I would be happy to carpool as long as they were friends and not just "people from the office." I don't think I'd have any problem with it.

Ive done it a few times and ended up feeling "put on"...Oh I forgot to fill up/ cant afford the petrol this week can you drive again or them not being ready on time , oh can you drop me at **** today which is like well out of your way..etc...Got to the stage that if this certain woman slammed my door shut once more I was gonna scream...Then theirs the moaning...listening to them whine.......you not being able to listen to your fav music etc..Im the type that finds it hard to say no and those kind of people pick up on it. At one work place I gave lifts but wouldnt take money, that way I didnt feel so beholden to them, the grief you got if you said, oh im on holiday next week...oh well how am i gonna get to work?..erm go ask another mug lol....

As far as the kids go we share alot for parties and after school activities where by i will take them and the other mum picks them up etc...
