Oh humiliating. Try shopping on line, it's easier.

Poor girls, that has happened me to because they forgot to take a tag off. It was so humiliating but the security guard was really nice.
Was it Tiffanys or something because of all the security?

jimbo;853155 wrote: i went shopping with my two daughters i paid for my shopping and as i have a sore knee the two girls walked ahead of me some 15 feet or so
as they went through the exit all manor of sirens and alarms went off ,the ywo girls were mortified ,and the long lost member of the gestapo security guard was in full goosestep giving the girls a hard time
i came up and in front of about 100 shoppers he started going through our shopping , the check out woman had left a tag on something chantelle had brought , he was estatic ,i calmly pointed to my reciept and told him i had done nothing wrong i had paid for my goods he had 10 seconds to get the tag off or i was walking out the store ,as he had no right to hold me/us
a few more security men came over ,and i sort of gave him a minute but what would of happened if i had just stormed off , i had broken no law , i read somewhere that a guy stood up to these bullies , i wonder what happened to him
has any of you guys ever been searched without doing anything wrong its kinda humiliating in front of loads of other shoppers ... right next time i'm not stopping
They're within their right to stop you and ask you to return to the store with you. They can also use reasonable force to hold you until the police come if you refuse to return-it's basically a citizens arrest. If they just grab you for no apparent reason you're within your rights to refuse to allow them to search you and insist the police get involved. Potentially it's false arrest which is why a lot of larger retail companies use outside security firms so the store doesn't get sued if they make a mistake and are over zealous with the wrong person. If you run off they will assume you have stolen something and use the reasonable force necessary to detain you and the police are not likely to be terribly sympathetic, nor are the courts. It's probably not worth the hassle and they're just doing their jobs after all. A lot of store detectives do get attacked, I knew one that got stabbed by a nine year old kid, another that got jumped by the shoplifters mates who were waiting outside to grab him for catching one of their mates. On one occasion i was involved in the arrest of a pregnant woman who in the space of five minutes went from offering to pay, claiming she wasn't responsible because of her condition, the baby was on the way to being this pathetic weeping creature by the time the police arrived. Brilliant acting but you do get very cynical. Funniest one was a church of Scotland minister pinching ladies underwear.
They can't search your bag without a good reason-a security tag setting off an alarm is reasonable grounds. On the other hand you don't need to put up with an aggressive attitude especially if directed at teenage girls who clearly haven't done anything wrong.
