I am, but once again, it's going to be a real HORSE RACE. Trying to

pick a winner is nigh on to impossible. The favorite drew the outside

post position, really hard to win from #20!! (His name's Big Brown if

you want to watch... also lightly raced, only 3 but he won them all.)

The other horse I like, Colonel John, is in the middle of the bunch at

#10. BUT it will be his first time on a dirt track, he's raced on

synthetic up until now.

Throw in a filly (Eight Belles) and it gets even harder. She's coming

off a four race win streak, but it's hard for a girl to win against

all those boys!!

Mint juleps, anyone?

We make it all fun at our house. So there's 20 horses and 4 kids. They each get 5 horses and whoever wins get's a pint of Ben & Jerry's. Of course, they all get a pint, but the winner get's to pick the flavor. And sure, I'll take one of those mint juleps.

And then the Preakness over here afterwards, it will be interesting to see which ones will be running the second race.

Race horses are gorgeous animals and how do you even pick a winner? Why wouldn't the female win? Not strong as the male horses? Has a female horse ever won the Derby? Just wondering. I've never tasted a mint julep. Have fun!

There's some theories as to why the fillies don't win very much,

main one being the testosterone the boys have makes them stronger

and faster.

Three fillies have won, let me see if I can remember (I know their

names but not the years too well) let's see, first was Regret (the

owners regretted they had a filly when she was born!!) that was

1915... then Genuine Risk, I think that was 1980, and then Winning

Colors, I think 1988.

As for the mint juleps, I was just teasing, a friend once said they

taste like whiskey-flavored mouthwash... he was right!!
