While working on my Father in-laws papers

I found his Army Discharge Certificate

Army of the United States

Honorable Discharge January 19, 1946

Reason and authority for separation "Demobilization"

I had no idea what that meant - I looked it up

You learn something everyday

My Father in-laws certificate states

Demobilization - to change over from war footing to peace footing

Now the Service calls this form a DD214 instead of a Demobilization Certificate.

Interesting

I love old certificates & documents - this one is so Cool..

Several yrs ago there was a massive storm that blew through. Uprooted trees, damaged roofs etc. The neighborhood my sis lived in sustained heavy wind and her next door neighbor's roof had substantial damage.

One of her daughters was out helping pick up trash and debris when she found in her hand an old newspaper apparently from the attic of the neighbor's home.

Glancing at it she recognized a name she had heard. She brought the paper home and sis read the article about a downtown beat cop that had chased down a robbery suspect.

The cop was our great grandfather and the newspaper was from the 1940's.

I had put my Father in-laws war medals in a frame, not knowing anything about them.

On this old Military Discharge lists the medals & date of issue - so cool.

Also has his right thumb print

Also listed his pay $ 6.60 a month - he was a Sargent. Wow

I love old documents - they're very ornate
