Ironic implies truth, surely. That's a horribly untrue image. In what sense are we supposed to approach a lie like that? Laugh?

If I had to guess it's a still from a dreadful B movie from the 80s. I have no idea, I'm merely guessing. RG will undoubtedly know where she acquired it. She might even explain why she made a thread out of it.

Spot I was counting on a comment like that from you- you don't disappoint.
It speaks for itself and I figured people will either get it or they won't, which is why I made no comment about it. I wanted to see what people had to say.
Why would you think it to be a movie still? Weirder things than this happen all the time in life.

That image would've been a good thing for me to present to my class, we are studying racism, stereotyping, ethnic backgrounds of the United states, and last week was slavery and how the African Americans have evolved in the United States over the years.....
I'm sure some of my African American classmates would've had a comment about the image....

A society that plain refuses to distinguish between fact and fiction is a very sick society.
Evolved??? Wow that's one unfortunate word in that context.

I'll tell you how you know for a fact that that inane image is fictional. The guy on the gurney still has his KKK pointy hat on. The image needs that to inform the more imbecilic among its audience that this is a KKK member on the gurney. In real life, from lying on the street after getting shot to being put into the ambulance to being worked on by a resuscitation team to being off-loaded to the gurney, does anyone think that at each lift someone's going to make sure the guy's hat stays in place?
That's a TV studio or a comic-book photo-story, one or the other, and the pointy hat's part of the message.

It's a world of difference!!
African American society has undoubtedly evolved in the United States over the years but God help the academic who tries to claim that African Americans have. The one is a statement, the other is a racial slur.

Spot, you're coming close to a very dangerous line that shouldn't be crossed. It was just last year when you called me a white supremacist and I let that one go. Now you're telling me I'm stupid too. I usually ignore it when you present yourself as holier than thou but that ceases now.
You need to mind better the things you say to people.
Actually, the emblem on the guy's shirt is just as telling as his pointy hood.
Have you ever ridden in an ambulance, Spot? Or been taken into the ER ward? The medical staff doesn't have time to F around with your hat; they are too busy trying to save you.
As for its origin, since you know everything everybody else doesn't, why don't you provide the photo's factual origin then? I'm sure I would be mistaken regardless of anything I said.

Why is it that anythyme one mentions whites and blacks in the same sentence, or in this case, DOESN'T, A Rev. Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or a hand drawn facimilie has to jump out of the bushes flasing the racist card? I must have missed something here. The photo in itself is not racist, it shows nurses who happen to look very caring and worried for their patient rushing to save his life. And if anything, it shines a nice light on the blacks. There was no caption demeaning anyone, and lets assume that Spot is right, since he has already made that assumption himself, and the photo is staged, does that make it "racist" or demeaning". The only thing I have seen demeaning in this entire thread is his treatment of the poster. I think IMHO, that it is a message of hamanity and nothing less. :-5

It's less easy to find out when it's posted without a hint of its origin but never mind.
It's an advert. From a series produced by Large magazine, whatever that is. The person who decided to pretend it was real trimmed off the advertising slogan "For People Who Think Bigger Than They Are":
The medical staff doesn't have time to F around keeping your hat on your head; they are too busy trying to save you.
Seriously, RG, nobody with an ounce of brain could think that image was real and I'm convinced you knew it was impossible. That's why I asked your motive in posting it.

It's one of the central aspects of cultural dumbing-down of the age, Acc. It's a photo of a representation of an event which if it had happened would have warranted discussion of its ironic implications. It's an event which didn't happen. The asinine pretence that it did, or that it might have done, or what-if, or most importantly "it makes no difference whether", is the assault on the cultural kitten.
I like culture, I hate to see it mocked this way. The idea that the mocking is being done by people who are so deadened to what they're doing that they honestly don''t realize they're doing it makes me heave.
Can we all get it into our heads that I'm not joking, I'm not having a go for fun, I detest the ignorance that this thread implies not in terms of oh I thought it was a real photo but oh what difference does it make whether it's a photo from a genuine event or an advert. The barbarians are at the gates, civilization lost the battle, bring on Armageddon and let's all rebuild from scratch because there's nothing left worth saving.

Spot, I usually don't try to discuss issues with you because I find your way of discussion to be argumentative too often. You must always be right or at least that is the impression you put forth, whether you are or are not aware of it. At first I thought you were simply chastizing me for not knowing fake from real in the photo I posted. But since, in reading your comments, I've realized by using terms like "dumbing down" and some of the comments you've made, that you have actually insulted every member who posted in this thread because evidently a lot of them took the photo for real as well.
When all's said and done, all FG is is just a message board. While I can appreciate the need for truth and accuracy, in the end I don't think anyone really cares much if threads like this make you or anyone else "heave."
I posted something I felt was amusing, you called me on its accuracy, okay I accepted that but then it continued to escalate into how dumb people, especially Americans (gotta throw that in there) are. That was unnecessary. As well when you told me "don't be stupid" that was an implication that I was. I don't need that from you, Spot. If you are wondering where the respect went, you might consider if what you say warrants any.
After the facts about the photo were established, we could have taken this thread into a number of directions and discussed several things, perhaps even including the level of gullibility among us humans, but it turned into this mess instead.
I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong on something or when I've made a mistake but I can do that without insulting comments from fellow members.

You two need G damn escorts to make sure one doesn't enter an area the other is already in. f'in children, the both of you.
Grey's Anatomy had an episode along these lines. A guy needed surgery, but didn't want the black woman surgeon. H finally acquiesced on the condition that a white guy monitored to make sure she didn't do anything bad. Turns out he had a swastika tatooed on his belly.
The surgeon made sure her team was 100% not white. Pretty funny, right? Well, imagine the reaction of a team member when she realized that she was requested by name, not because of her outstanding skill, but because of her ethnicity.

I have read many posts on here, and not once have I seen a disclaimer stating that attachments were real, fictional, or a combination of both. Disclaimers? Tell you why you should comment on a post? Ignore racism? Poppycock.
If I have to instruct someone as to why they should make a comment then I'm not really interested in that person's comment to start with. I enjoy discussion with people who can think for themselves. I don't do or need disclaimers. Nor do I or anyone else need to "be more cautious" with what we post. I post what I find to be worthy and if that doesn't appeal to someone, they can read something else. Racism is something that needs to be discussed until the day it dies or it will continue to fester.
