looking for a book to read and i have these to choose from ...
anyone read one?

Angela's Ashes .... Frank McCourt
Wild Swans .... Jung Chang
Lauren Bacall by Myself and Then Some
Forbidden Face .... Latifa
Man and Wife .... Tony Parsons
The God of Small Things .... Arundhati Roy

Its especially good if your parents were drunken Irishmen.
It allows you to bond with the author.
Leaves you with that "HEY ! Ive just made a friend" feeling.

Saw the movie "Angela's Ashes" and found it so sad and depressive.

I gave Wild Swans to my daughter when she was about nine, she got half way through it before her mother confiscated it as wildly unsuitable. It wasn't.
The God of Small Things is less informative though almost as educational and it has a sense of humour.
Angela's Ashes is an Irish tale which means I believed very little that it told me but I enjoyed it from start to finish. Mind you, I tell of my childhood on occasion and I've not found anyone prepared to believe a word of that either.

thanx for the reviews ... i think i am gonna settle for the god of small things to start with ..

I've also read "Angela's Ashes". I agree with Nomad. Good book.
