What Do Retirees Do?

Post by Lon »

In addition to golf, pickleball, tennis and swimming, there is Bocce Ball. The game is Italian and very similar to the French version called Patanque.

My partner and I were happy to win First Place in the Men's Doubles, even winning some $$$$$ which I guess makes us Professionals. I think I even saw some Pro Scouts lurking about.:wah:

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

I'm not sure what I want set in stone or anything. I'm 46 so my age is still relatively young and I can only get a glimpse of what I'd like by looking at my own parents and older people I've known and know. But I can start a wish list I suppose:

I'd like the same I have today without worry about health matters. When we're young our bodies are strong and invincible but when we get older things can go wrong. First Id like to be sure my health care wasn't going to be an issue for money or access for either myself or my family.

Next I'd like to be free to travel to anywhere in the world whether I'd go or not. There's something about feeling like I could do it that makes a difference to me. I'd like to not think about terrorism and drug thugs and whatnot, vengeance, warlords, and impoverished people. I would like to go places and meet and greet people who are happy and satisfied with their lives.

Overall I'd like to know I had income to support myself in retirement, not be a burden on myself, society, my family.

Those are some of things I can think of off the top.

Erin

Edit: Hi Lon, thought you wanted what do retirees, want, rather than, do, so that's what was rolling around in my head. I'm not a retiree so dont' have a comment to what they do. Though I would say my parents who are retired try to do fun things.

I hope no one gets in too big a hurry to retire. A workplace injury forced me into retirement at the age of 55. These days, all I can do for sure is eat, sleep and poop. I squeeze some TV and keyboard punching into my busy schedule too.

Enjoy whatever you are doing, even if it is work.

Oh, I'm enjoying myself well enough. I packed a lot of stuff in my better days. Now, I get away with more. Guys at the bar won't punch me in the head if I mouth off 'cause it would make 'em look stupid. The cleaning lady lets me pat her butt without slapping me silly. Lots of perks like that. :wah:
