Just saw a blurb on the news sliding across the bottom of the TV screen today, that mentioned something about "Airlines" were tossing around the idea of "charging passengers according to their weight"!!!!! If that were to actually come to fruition, I'll have to start saving for my ticket now!!! :wah:

Many Airlines "are" charging at least $15 or more for the second "checked" bag already, (we paid $3 each for all of our checked bags May 7 this year, it was called an "admin fee"!!) and a few are already charging $15 or more for any checked bags!!! Eventually, it probably will come to pass that all checked bags on all Airlines will be surcharged!!! And many Airlines are not suppling snacks & or meals on flights any longer. Even with many cost cutting still in the works, it has still been said that the continuing skyrocketing cost of Jet fuel, will eventually throw the Airline industry back to days of yesteryear, where only the affulent will be able to afford to fly!!!

Oy vey Cars,
THE DIET STARTS NOW:wah::wah:
I was so shocked to hear that we have to pay $20 per bag, $10 if you prepay with a credit card on Spirit Airlines to Florida....yuk. I also thought the soda's were free and had to pay $2 on my credit card...no snacks, no water, $5 for a glass of wine
What a world we live in....

Oy Vey is right KE, by the time we're ready to go back down South at the end of the year, it may turn out that we will have to drive!!! Although, with the gas prices as they are & keeps rising almost daily, it may just be a wash! (It cost us $379 R/T each, for our last plane trip, what will it be in 6 months???) Going to have to do the math, at the time.
(Gas currently $4.25g, tolls $28, 2 nights in hotel, ($80/night) and that's "both" ways, so . . .)

Cars,
Have you ever taken the auto train down? It's expensive, near $400 but you can load up your car and it cuts out 16 hours of driving. You can pick up the train south of Washington D.C. and it arrives outside of Orlando. I take the train now instead of driving. I live about 4 hrs. north of Washington and it's nice to just sit and relax and talk with nice people.:-6

No KE, not the auto train, but years ago, I used to take the Silver comet out of Penn Sta NYC. I used to drive each year upto 1995, then airline prices dropped, so then we started to take the plane.
When we drove, to me the hardest part of the drive was from NE, through NY, NJ, Maryland, Washington. The easy part was where the Autotrain then started, so. Then in FL I would still have to drive another 3 or so hours to my destination. :wah:

I hear ya Cars, but I hate to drive through the carolinas with the 18 wheelers ....those babies were doin wayyyyy over 90...especially in torrential rains. I would sometimes kiss the ground when I arrived at Fripp Island:-4
yes, getting around the tri states and dc are the hardest. On my last trip home from Florida on the autotrain, I sat with 3 nice men at the dinner table. Their ages were 19, 50 and 90 yrs. old. We sat up almost all night drinking wine and chatting...great fun:p I was really worried about the 90 yr old man...he had to drive from dc to long Island, ny...I wouldn't be able for that drive....scary...

My BIL is a pilot, he said the arilines usually base a ticket price on about 175 pound persons, with an additional 50-70 pounds of luggage depending on the airlines. The reason wieght is important is for take off, weight of the aircraft is estimated for power on take off.
With fuel prices varying upwards it makes sense the price of tickets would increas.
I'm headed back home for three trips in the next four months, two fo the trips my wife is also coming with me, if they make her step on a scale to weigh her, you can bet two things are gonna happen, one of which is she'd go horse and buggy for days on end before she steps on a scale and has someone weigh her for a pricetag...
If the airlaines do that they will destory thier business, the only ones that will fly are those who are below the standard. Talk about a bisuness killer!
It will never happen...
I certainly hope not, to me, weighing someone sounds like that it definately would be an "invasion" of privacy! :wah: Which is against the law!

Discriminatory if they declare a surcharge for people of an overweight persuasion :wah:
What if they price tickets to reflect their costs - base price plus $x per pound for passenger plus luggage?

As for the baggage charge - this will generate everyone to use a LARGE CARRY ON and nothing else. Everyone DUCK !!
Our News recently announced a Airlines will stop serving FREE peanuts.
They won't get my weight - bad enough they got my age.
I never liked the word as BUS " AIR BUS "
you don't get peanuts when you ride a BUS - no blanket - just a toilet in the air.
