Three teenagers forced to not attend their graduation because they brought rebel flags to school.

Is this freedom of speech? Is the flag really a symbol of hate today?

Do their actions warrant this punishment? What do you think?

They pulled a prank. They knew the rules. They knew the consequences. They probably figured that they would get away with it be cause they're seniors and besides it's no big deal. They were wrong.

Their decision. Their consequence.

Now, if someone really thought the rule is wrong, they should try to get the rule changed.

i hate the symbol that the confederate flag has become!

what i always considered a symbol of my southern heritage, has now become something to be hated, i own a confederate flag but i wouldn't dare fly it, the way it's thought of today! instead it's packed away with my other family history materials.

believe me slavery is not a part of my country's heritage that i'm proud of but i don't think the flag should be associated with all the groups that have now taken it as there own!

That's true. The flag was originally a symbol of states' rights and self-determination, which is what the Constitution was to preserve. No denying the hipocrisy of slavery at the same time, though.

I'm having to side with freedom of speech here.Even if they brought in a swastika flag, I'd say they had a right to do that. If they brought to school a Little Black Sambo doll, I'd say they had a right to. I'm just not seeing how their dumb self expression warrants being booted from graduation.

you're right! Slavery is something that i'm ashamed of, but my ancesters who fought in the civil war were fighting for what they believed in, just as my ancestors before them fought in the revolutionary war to help make us a free country.

yes my paternal ancestors owned a plantation and had slaves but by the same token my maternal ancesters had to become indentured servants just to get to this country, but either way i don't think what our ancestors did should be held aganist us like it is by many people.

Part of state-funded education is toeing the state-funded line. "As long as you're under my roof you'll obey my rules." They could have run laps around the school every evening and all Saturday if they'd wanted to, but it wasn't the flag they wanted to display. It was their asses.

This so pisses me off............

I wish people would get educated.

This is a Confederate flag (the first):

(and it is banned)

Now this is a Naval Jack BATTLE flag:

NOT the Confederate flag of the Confederacy..........

There is a big difference.
