Guilty Pleasures

What makes a pleasure guilty? The answer differs person to person. But one possible definition is "an activity hidden to keep oneself from becoming the butt of family and friends' jokes or ire, which could last a lifetime — the joke or ire that is."

Beneath all of our carefully crafted personas — sophisticate, intellectual, artist, tough guy, correctly political etc. — are desires that cannot be denied: self indulgence, romantic, mindlessness, geekiness — your call.

Whatever the category, some of our deeds warrant greater safeguarding than others. It can depend on the company we keep

Eating Skittles may make you a mocked-man for a few days, while admitting you watch reruns of "Three's Company" could unleash a lifetime of pain and humiliation. Sometimes the means to it are the problem. Our partner doesn't get the golf club or heels at $1,200.

TV ranks high on the list of guilty pleasures (GP). Most people deny watching tacky shows. But mindless, even stupid TV series hang in for years, so someone is tuning in.

others include, late night snacks , trash novels, and shopping.

Chocolate comes up a lot. Wine, is a mainstay on the list, Shoe and handbag shopping is a common secret undertaking, Even foods good for you can fall in the category.

No wants to admit to embarrassing musical choices either. But we all know someone out there is listening to "Muskrat Love," or the Bee Gees (more than 100 million albums sold)!

Last April Rolling Stone printed its list of the top 25 guilty pleasure bands. The top 10 were: 1. Rush, 2. E.L.O., 3. Journey, 4. ABBA, 5. Chicago, 6. Boston, 7. Foreigner, 8. Bread, 9. Bon Jovi, 10. New Edition. The Monkees made 11. Britney Spears 25.

So who's brave enough to let us in on there guilty pleasures?

It's an endless list. The critter huggers are trying to make me feel guilty about all the game I killed and fish I caught. The gun control freaks are trying to make me feel guilty for being a weapons collector and enjoying the shooting sports. The fat cops want me to hate myself for being overweight. Homosexuals are PO'D at me for not wanting them in my space or face. Minorities hate me for wanting to live with my own people, just as they bunch up with their own race. Women find me guilty of thinking women do not belong on every job or workplace just because THEY think they do. I enjoy it when I meet a doctor for the first time and he looks worse that I do. And I take great pleasure with no guilt, in bashing lawyers and politicians.

I agree with you about the lawyers and politicians, and even though i am a woman and will probably get blasted for this, i think there are some jobs women shouldn't be doing, i have no problem with owning a gun i own more than one and have a permit to carry one as well.

one thing i will have to disagree about, i am one of those critter huggers! :wah:
