What's Your Idea of Beauty?

The old saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"!
and it's often said that beauty comes from within!
But so much of the time we don't feel beautiful, it may be that we don't like the way we look, or it may be that we've done something and we don't feel good about ourselves on the inside!
Either way what is you're idea of what makes someone beautiful?
Is it outside appearance? or an inner beauty that shines through to the outside?
or maybe a little bit of both?

For me, it's not all about how a person looks. It's their personality that makes them beautiful. (or not) Afterall, looks fade:-6

I won't lie and say looks don't appeal to me. But I don't pick my friends on how they look either.
Beauty is all sorts of different things aside from the physical and the human aspect.
I could write a small novel on what it is to me. But instead....
There's this song by Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers called "Better Beautiful Than Perfect:"
"Beauty is beauty in spite of perfection...."
I agree.

If we're talking about beauty in the sense of looks then you can keep your hunk man pics they are so gay ...........I see no beauty whats so ever in those . neither do I see beauty in super models and the like.
I think we find the most beautiful people in the world is where we least expect it . :-6 It's not in a magazine it's not in a church ........................It's in the landscape of different cultures and races and human beings.
thats a wonderful way of putting it, i have found beauty were i least expected it too!
and ugliness where i least expected it!
some people i have known who are considered pretty have been so ugly on the inside!
and some people who aren't considered pretty have been some of the nicest people i have ever met, and some of the best freinds i have ever had!

i guess it's human nature for looks to appeal to us, but i don't pick my friends by how they look either!
i'm a firm believer that you can love people without even seeing them, once you get to know their personality, their spirit, you get a sense of who they are!
i've found that to be true in particular since coming to FG and making so many wonderful friends here that i have a true affection for without having ever seen them!

You said that perfectly Hope.
Although finding someone attractive is usually the first step then the rest comes after...but this is not always true. First time I met my hubby, I wasn't attracted to him at all...he's a readhead and I never had liked redheads. :wah: He worked on me and I fell in love. We've been together almost 18 yrs now, and I think he's gorgeous. :-4

Beauty lies in the beholder's eyes
So many beauties in this appealing world
The true beauty lies in the beholder's eyes
There is beauty in the child's innocence and in mother's love
There is beauty in a friend's affection and in a tender heart
There is beauty in a pretty smile and caring eyes
There is beauty in the morning sun and a rainy day
There is beauty in the flaky slow and a pleasant spring
There is beauty in the milky moon and the graceful rivers
There is beauty in a hard earned victory and a hopeful soul
There is beauty in me and beauty in you
So many beauties in this spectacular world and its dazzling life
And the true beauty lies in the beholder's eyes

To me Beauty is to love someone who dosent see your faults....is there through those hard times.....crys with you when your in pain and wishes they had that pain and not you......comforts you when a pet dies and cuddles you when you feel so down....looks at you with so much love even though you know you look a mess......stands up for you even though they know your in the wrong....Beauty is the special love that you have for each other through thick and thin........

What i find attractive, in men. most of my friends go EEEK. To me, a Mt. man or lumber jack type. the hairier the better. But his smell, his eyes, his smile. his personality. The out side is meaningless to me. Most men or women that are concidered HOTTIES. Are so stuck on themselves. It makes them truly UGLY, to me.

From what I've seen, the real beauty of a person shows through when they actually "talk" (or write) to you.
If they're mean & nasty, their uglyness will rise to the surface. If they're kind & caring, their beauty outshines their shell!
(I've said this before, but I'll say it again.

)
They say, "Beauty is only skin deep". :-2
I say, how deep do you have to go, to get to see it, in some! :wah:

The Beauty of a Woman
The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears,
The figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows,
And the beauty of a woman with passing years -- only grows!

I always look for internal beauty. Even if a person is externally gorgeous, if they have a bad personality, nothing they can do can make them look beautiful to me.

Handprints on the Wall
Author Unknown
One day as I was picking
the toys up off the floor
I noticed a small hand print
on the wall beside the floor.
I knew that it was something
that I'd seen most every day
but this time when I saw it there
I wanted it to stay.
Then tears welled up inside my eyes,
I knew it wouldn't last
for every grandma knows,
her grandchildren grow up way too fast.
Just then I put my chores aside
and held my grandchildren tight.
I sang to them sweet lullabies
and rocked into the night.
Sometimes we take for granted
all those things that seem so small.
Like one of God's great treasures.....
a small handprint on the wall.

I was going to start this post off with something like :"Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder", :sneaky: but then I thought a bit more about it and discovered that its is a difficult question to answer, to put my finger on exactly what I would consider my idea of beauty.
In the end, I came up with this: "Beauty to me is something that creates positive emotions in my mind" What i am trying to say is, for example, when I look at that landscape, it makes me feel happy, contented. :-6

I've been hesitant to post this in here in case we're just talking about physical beauty vs. personality and soul. If I derail the thread, I apologize. I find things beautiful quite often in their imperfection. (beauty is beauty in spite of perfection) I find this in old abandoned buildings where they seem to steadfastly refuse to decay into the earth easily. I see it in rusted out old cars in the hills. I see it in Ellen Barkin's squinty eyes. All kinds of places. Beauty is often wherever you look.
