How about it. Do you walk under ladders? Don't let black cats cross your path?

I:

Never put shoes or hats on the bed

Always knock on wood after saying something bad that might come true

Say "Bread and Butter" when something parts me from someone I'm walking with

Tap a brush with my right foot after dropping it on the floor and before I pick it up

Never walk on a grave

Always put money in a wallet or purse before giving it as a gift

Give someone money when they give me a knife as a gift

So many more. But I come by it naturally. My grandmother used to tell me these things.:-6

my grandpa i think took it to another level. he was a conductor for the railroad. my mother told me. a couple times a black cat crossed his path. so he would go home. lock himself in his room and make my grandma call him off. also my mom just was CRAZY about cats. she lived on a farm. you would never see a black one there.:wah:

i don't walk under ladders, i don't give knives as gifts, i always pick up any pennies i find,i don't want anything to do witha black cat, i won't sweep the floor after dark, (the saying on that on is, if you sweep over the threshold after the sun goes down, you're gonna lose someone you love!)

there are more but i can't think right now!

WOW, really??? I have 3 black kittens that need a home!! You won't be a new kitty owner huh???:p

How about the shoe boxes thing? I have a friend that her mom didn't believe in keeping shoe boxes around because it meant bad luck or something to do with a woman being single for a period of time due to the number of boxes in her house or some such stuff.....

how about the hand itching??? If your hand itches it means money is coming to you? That happened to me before actually.....

I never heard the one about the sweeping the floor after dark....wow....I almost always clean at night.....hmmmm

Thats interesting about the hand itching....my friend (whose mom is REALLY superstitious) said that if the right hand itches you will recieve money, if the left hand itches you will be paying money unexpectidly.....funny thing is....my right hand itches a lot, and I've experienced where its itched one day and the next I went to my mail box and got annonymouse gift of $500.00 .....no return address.....it was the weirest thing....and other times its happened too, but not such large amounts and usually a friend or relative blesses me with gifts of money to help me.....weird huh?

I don't think I am to bad.

I just won't ever put shoes on a table.

Supposed to be bad luck.

I do get premonitions though,I hate that when it happens.

I had a great aunt Rose Ella that was going from Alb. N.Mex. to TorC N. Mex. on a grey hound bus and when a black cat ran across the street in front of the bus while they were pulling out to start the trip , she made the driver pull over and she got off to wait for the next bus .

I was raised by my grandparents and this aunt and a great uncle Maurice my grandparents were inclined to joke about all my aunts sillyness and my uncle just grumped at her.

I ask my grandpa one time about what the 'not walking under a ladder ' was about and he said " cuz hammers and tools are damn heavy and if one gets dropped on your head it might learn you about walking under ladders"

Grandma use to say if you swept under someones feet while they were sitting down then they wouldn't get married that year, since she was married to grandpa 63 years we just laughed as she picked up her feet so I could sweep that part of the floor,,:D

All those sayings are sort of habits ,like not putting a hat on the bed ,or throwing salt over your shoulder etc.. because my aunt was VERY sereiouse about stuff but I always think ( with a grin ) of the fussing between my aunt and uncle Maurice when some thing would make aunt Rose Ella say something about it.:)

I consider black cats, Friday the 13th and umbrellas open in the house to be good luck. Same with cats who have two different colored eyes.

A bird crashing into my window worries me because I wonder if someone's going to fall sick or die.

If someone gives me a knife, I give them a penny so the knife doesn't sever the friendship.

When giving someone a new wallet or a new purse, I have to put a penny in it so they'll have money.

I don't walk under ladders.

I throw salt over both shoulders if I spill any and there is usually some salt on my kitchen floor from this. I leave it there till I next sweep.

Coins and rocks with holes in them are lucky.

If my necklace clasp works its way to the front of my neck, I make a wish while turning it back.

If a friend and I say the same thing at the same time, I say "Spook!" and we have to hook our little fingers and make a wish. If we're apart when it happens we have to at least say "spook" and make a wish.

I wish on fountains and throw in coins- always three wishes for me and whoever's with me gets three coins too for their three wishes. Usually pennies but sometimes silver. I always try to get the coin on the top tier or top level of the fountain.

I wish on falling stars.

I pick up pennies and feathers for luck and when I find a feather sometimes I will keep it and sometimes I will wish on it and blow it out of my hand.

I wish on dandelion puffs.

These things all seem more like I do them out of tradition rather than luck but whatever the reason I will always do them. :)

No not at all. I walk under ladders, let black cats cross my path, I love Friday the 13th and my lucky number is 13. I don't worry about spilled salt, and the broken mirror just means that it got a glimpse of my face! :wah:

Well, luckily I don't believe that you get seven years' bad luck for breaking a mirror. Good job really as I break things all the time and I'd be up to about the next millennium by now!:-3
