Florrie wrote: Friends coming to dinner Saturday night and one is a very upmarket chief.

I have :sneaky: asked one of his close friends for advice re- menu.

The answer I received was Bangers & Mash or Fish & Chips!!!!! :-2

Any suggestions?

Spagetti sauce out of a jar from the super market and pre-packaged pasta.

For something sweet a box of twinkies uncerimoniously tossed upon the dinner table.

Florrie hunny make the meal you feel the best about when you cook for your family. I am certain upscale chefs appreciate good old fashioned home cooking by someone other than themselves.

Good luck and do keep us informed. Remember this is your friend and they are not going to judge your cooking no more than the plumber judges his best friends bathroom. It is something they work with all day and are going to be happy that someone else is taking over the chore.

Florrie...

Voice of experience here.. I spent 15 years as a chef and when I would visit friends for dinner, an invitation gratefully recieved because it meant that I didn't have to cook, evaluating the meal was the last thing on my mind. I was there to enjoy spending an evening with my friends. So.. keep it simple and enjoy the evening with friends..

I don't know if it is still done but impress the chef with having it(fish and chips) wrapped up in that day's paper so that he can keep up with the world and not have to read yesterday's news?

Origionally F&C's came wrapped in newspaper.....memories.....memories......the taste lingers :) .

Quite expensive meal nowdays especially for a family.
Now that they've figured out that they can make money out of it what did you expect?
