A preacher that I know has always said, "leave the skeletons in the closet, lock the door, throw away the key, and get on with your life!"

So is this good advice? or is it always necessary for the truth to come out in every situation?

I believe something like that, in some respects. What's in the past shouldn't hold one back in the present or future. I don't believe that every situation warrants opening that door... depending upon the skeleton(s), that could be considered TMI to some. :wah: Some situations might require coming clean, though. ( A job for example, that requires a polygraph test and in-depth interviews with all of your friends, associates and family from the past ten years, or running for political office where opponents are likely to dig up your past...) What happens when that door gets opened and an explanation may be required?

I like the TRUTH -

I think I cleaned out our family skeletons

no one's in the closet and

no one's coming out of the closet..

No harm in throwing away the key if you have actually dealt with the situation & moved on from it. Problems arise when people dont deal with it, hide from it, lock it away. So yes, its better to face the truth, i dont see how you can live a healthy balanced life without doing so.

i think you're right, it really would depend on the situation!

yes the truth is good, but what if all that truth is gonna do is hurt somone, and serve no other purpose?

yeah, and somtimes you think you have dealt with it and it comes back years later, and you see that you never dealt with it at all!

I too believe some things are best left unsaid. I suppose if you can leave the skeletons alone and be guaranteed they will never come back to haunt you then why not lock em up.

I think many people have secrets, the key is not to let them get the better of you. Accept them as part of what you are and move on. Even better if they can be left locked away and prevent anyone from being hurt.

That is very wise, minks. It is easy most of the time to keep them in the locked corner of the mind, and let them stay there.

But there's always somebody, somewhere, sometime gonna out it so probably best just dealing with it at the time.

That is where you weigh what the consequences are, and what would be better. Never an easy call, since you live with it the rest of your life.

I agree with you CG.

And hey you know maybe down the road nothing will ever become of it and what if you spent all your life worrying about it.

i think there are many situations where something has happened that can't be changed, and telling someone about it will only serve to hurt them, then i see no reason to tell them!
