Memories Are Made Of This

My late mother so I’m told ¦ for she died while I was quite young ¦ played the piano with exceptional elegance ¦ however I do vaguely remember her giving piano lessons to two of my older sisters ¦
We are quite a close knit family my sisters and I and although we live in different cities we try to get together in one place every few years for a reunion ¦
I remember at one such reunion I asked my oldest sister ¦ herself now quite an accomplished pianist ¦ to tell me as much as she could remember about our mother ¦ little knowing that her long-term memory loss had already begun ¦ it was only years later that she admitted that she could recall very little about Lola ¦
So instead of saying anything she used a very unique and effective way of telling me what she could remember about her ¦ she went and sat down at her piano and started playing a selection of songs that Lola had taught her to play ¦ how she remembered that these were tunes our mother had played I cannot say ¦
But I was immediately taken back to my childhood as I listened ... the now familiar songs giving me instant recall ¦
Here is a list of some of the songs she played ¦ all classics ¦ perhaps they may bring back a memory or two for you too ...
Let Me Call You Sweetheart (I’m In Love With You)
On The Sunny Side Of The Street Smile
Way Down Yonder In New Orleans Non Dimentica
The White Cliffs Of Dover Arrivederci Roma
Anniversary Song Only You (And You Alone)
Tea For Two Over The Rainbow
12th Street Rag My Heart Cries For You
After You’ve Gone Beautiful Dreamer
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes Bluebird of Happiness
It Had To Be You
